Question about cardio

I lift on Mon., Wed., and Fri. which, from the book I've been following and advice from others, is correct. I've also read/been told that for fat loss I should be doing at least 30min. of cardio 2-3 times a week, which I do on Tue., Thurs., and Sat.

So, your are supposed to give your muscles about 48hrs recovery time between lifting, right? But I should be doing cardio on non-lifting days, right? Which would only allow 24hrs. between a lifting day of butt, legs, and thighs and a cardio day.

I may be rambling here, but does cardio not apply to the time allowance rule for body recovery between lifting days or should I just shut up and keep doing what I'm doing?

shut up and keep doing it.

If you are doing cardio correctly then you'll recover just fine. If you are going balls to the wall each time then you'll over train for sure. Keep the cardio moderate. You should feel tired but not exhausted afterwards.

The body is pretty awesome at adapting to stress over time. As long as you aren't overdoing your cardio your body will adapt to your schedule pretty quickly.

Depending on my "phase" I can have some weeks where I workout 2-3 times a day and still improve.

The key is to slowly increase the stress you place on your body which allows it to recover, build and take on additional stress.

Unless you have some medical issues, 30 minutes of cardio 3x a week shouldn't be too stressful.

That's kind of what I thought.

I don't go balls out on the cardio(the book says not to). I've got an inexpensive Sears Proform elliptical and I do the highest resistance for about 35-40min. depending on how wrapped up in the TV I get. My breathing gets heavier, but not so that I can talk and work at the same time and I'll break a light sweat, just enough to get the heart working for a bit.

Exactly, moderate cardio is consdered active rest. It doesn't shock the body quite like heavy weight training does. I lift 4 days a week, and do cardio at least 4, and sometimes 6 days a week.

It always seems I work myself harder with my elliptical set on a lower resistance.
I do 30 mins 6 days a week, and adjust the resistance from day to day.

If your knees can handle the running, then go for it. I loved running, but an old knee injury won't allow it. I don't want to further damage anything so I stick with the elliptical.

some days i run some, some days i stick to the elliptical, i blew out my knee playing ball back in the day, so running can be a killer at times... when i do run, i start with 3 mins walking, 5 running, 3 walking, 7 running, till i cant take it anymore...if i just start on the elliptical, i can go for an hour straight and get a great workout and have no pain in my knee... then i go workout arms/legs, usually 7-8 machines with 4 sets of 12...
