Progress...for me at least.

Finally decided to quit talking about working out some and eating better and just fuckin nutted up and did it. Starting out slow but progress is noticeable after less than 2 weeks.

Been stretching everyday and added at least 1.5 to 2 inches in flexibility in coming closer to touching my toes
<-----inflexible mofo

Tried to run everyday...missed 3 days so far with either horrible weather or just got busy on Christmas day and such...excuses but oh well.
Started out barely able to run 4 tenths of a mile without almost falling over passed out...just got back from a 1.2 mile run without stopping. time to lengthen the distance and push myself a lil harder.

Started paying much more attention to what I eat and drink. I have been drinking much much more water (bladder sucks though have to pee almost every hour it seems like lol) and haven't had a coke or a beer in the two week time.

Last Monday weighed in at 228.5 lbs and now I'm at 221.5 as of this morning. so 7 lbs in under two weeks is progress to me. I haven't been in the 21x range in over 3.5 to 4 years so I'm happy with that. Hoping to be at 200 lbs in the not to distant future and possibly run in a 5k in the middle of Feb.

thats great nate, ive been taking some lipo 6, and basically eat better... still drinking tho, and not even working out, but i do plan on doing it after the new years... i started at 280 and so far i am down to 265, i figure once i start working out and stop drinking i should lose alot more weight... my goal is to get around 225, or at least get rid of this beer belly i got...

I've been doing the same, trying to eat better and all that. 3 years ago i was 300, lost 72 lbs to 228, now back to 240. I've been tryin to eat lotsa protein, and lots of water, and running again. Shooting for 215 by April.

I started my Summmer trim down the day after Christmas, no sense in putting it off until January 1 like usual. Congrats on the progress everyone.

Congrats, Nate. Keep it up.

Here is a little thing to remember when you are running...

if you can run 1 mile, you can run 2. If you can run 2 miles you can run 4. You wouldn't believe how powerful your mind can be.

The most I've run at one time is a little over 36 miles (4 times around White Rock Lake.) I tell people I train for triathlons that anything over 13 miles is almost strictly in your head.

I tell people that ask me for help with marathons don't try to "avoid pain" let it come along for the run. It sounds stupid but when you start feeling the pain just say to yourself, "Hello my old friend pain. I'm running why don't you come along for the run?" Acknowledge it and then let it go.

If anyone is interested and capable, I'll be more than glad to put together a DFWStangs training group for next year's White Rock Marathon. If you can run (however slow) for 30 minutes straight, I can train you to finish the marathon in 16 weeks, running 4 times a week, with minimal pain. You won't set any world records but you will finish. We can start it up in August. The longest training run would be 18 miles (two laps around White Rock) but the program starts its longest training run at 5 miles.

For those that can't run 30 minutes straight, I'll set you up on a program (no more than 2 months) to get you there.

I'm doing something a little different this year, I'm calling it the Sun Rock. The Saturday before the White Rock Marathon is the SunMart 50 miler in Huntsville. I'm going to run the SunMart on Saturday and the White Rock on Sunday.

My 401K is now a 400K (was 301K)

I like to run but my ankle cant stand it. I had it shattered back when I was 17, now it has pins and screws in it. I can jog, play softball, tennis or whatever and its ok. The next morning I cant hardly walk it hurts so bad. Any advice?

I have noticed the biggest part of going further each time is just...well telling yourself fuck the pain I'm going to do it and I can rest and recover later. The pain at 8 tenths of a mile is the same at the end of the 1.2 miles. Not really any more intense just basically the same.

01WhiteCobra-what is your training program to run for 30 mins? I can push myself to 20 mins pretty eaisly...but anything past that I run into some issues...I know it's mainly mental but I wouldn't mind if you put together a lil training program for me.

I decided after i weighed myself on New Years Eve and say something that started with a 3 that i need to stop eating the junk food and start working out more. I've started running short distances, maybe 3/4 mile or so, and am hoping to slowly go longer and longer. I Stopped smoking too which should help out quite a bit.

Do you think you could put the plan in writing? I would like to read it and try to put it into action this semester.

I don't necessarily plan on running marathons, but a regiment, as opposed to just running, would be beneficial. I'd also like to hear more about how to push through the barriers... I feel that when it comes to lifting I can keep pushing myself, but with cardio I tend to give up instead

I ran about 2 miles the other night. I got to get back into it because it's costing me speed on the dirt bike.

Here it is. I'm using it to recover from my achilles tendon rupture back in October (surgery to repair the complete rupture was 10/10/06.) I started running again this week... against the doctor's wishes. But everytime I go in for an appointment he says it looks better than he thought, so I don't see changing up until I have a set back.

The basic program is running 4x a week building up to a long run of 18 miles. 18 miles is about all you need as a max to finish a marathon (I'm not talking a personal best, just finishing... in say 4-4 1/2 hours). I run M/W/Th/S. Saturday is my long run.

Week: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Total (miles)
1: 3, 4, 3, 5, 15
2: 3, 4, 3, 6, 16
3: 3, 4, 3, 6, 17
4: 3, 5, 3, 8, 19
5: 3, 5, 3, 10, 21
6: 4, 5, 4, 11, 24
7: 4, 6, 4, 12, 26
8: 4, 6, 4, 14, 28
9: 4, 7, 4, 16, 31
10: 5, 8, 5, 16, 34
11: 5, 8, 5, 16, 34
12: 5, 8, 5, 18, 36
13: 5, 8, 5, 18, 36
14: 5, 8, 5, 9, 27
15: 3, 5, 3, 8, 19
16: 3, 3, walk 3, marathon, 35.2

If you cannot run 30 minutes straight at the beginning, start by jogging 5 minutes, walk 5 minutes, repeat for 30 minutes. Increase your jogs by 5 minutes per week until you are running the entire 30 minutes.

There ya' go. I'm not saying you would set a world record in the Marathon but you would be able to run the entire 26.2 miles without walking.

My 401K is now a 400K (was 301K)

That's just crazy, but so is marathon running in my book. My step bro and sis are into it. They are running the Goofy's challenge this weekend at Disneyworld.

Fuck yeah feeling good today...

down to my lowest weight since Jr year of highschool (6 years or so ago) and 219.5 lbs

Just ran 3 miles without stopping.

01WhiteCobra really had the best advice about just inviting pain on and just pushing through it. did 1.9 yesterday and that was a personal best decided to try a lil more today and just felt good at 1.9 so I kept going. Pretty pumped right now.
