Road Biker's

Where are some good places to ride in the Dallas/Ft worth area? Just bought a new trek 1000. I would prefer a park area to ride at if there are any up here.

I'm on the northeast side of Dallas so I never ride in Arlington but if you are looking for parks to ride in here is a list of Arlington trails:

http://www.ci.arlington.tx.us/park/guides/trails/

Of course, there is always White Rock Lake in Dallas. Once around the lake and up the trail to Hillcrest/635 and back is worth about 27 miles (9 around the lake, 18 miles up and back the trail)

I've never done much bike riding around White Rock but it is popular among cyclists. I typically only run there.

Also, contact some of the bike stores in Arlington and inquire about group rides. Lot more fun to ride with others than alone.

Good luck. I'm about 10 weeks post op on an achilles tendon rupture and just got back onto my mountain bike (on streets and flat trails). Can't wait to be bunny hopping on the trails again. Today would have been a great day on the trails.

I'm doing about 10-15 miles a day at the moment on the MTB along with walking about 2 miles and about an hour on the elliptical. Still some pain after about an hour of use and I still cannot do a standing calf raise on my bad leg yet. But my range of motion is there so I guess the next step is strength.

I haven't been on the road bike since the rupture. I think I'd push a little too hard and screw up recovery.

Recovery is a bitch when you are 43. Seems like I'm wasting my life away. haha.

White Rock is runner/biker heaven on the weekends. Lots of eye-candy running/biking around the lake.

If you're in south Arlington, Joe Pool Lake and the state park are pretty accessible to you. You can catch the Grand Prairie side of Joe Pool, and do a loop through Cedar Hill back out to 1382. It's scenic, a few huge hills, some knee-grinders, and a lot of flats. If you can ride with a buddy or two, I'd highly recommend it.
