Recovery

I broke some ribs and my pec on the right side is only partially attached. Anyone know how I can keep from losing my upper body strength while everything heals?

If you mean your pec is torn, there is nothing you can do. You'll never be able to utilize that(which ever is torn) muscle.

Well the muscle itself isn't torn but the tendons are. Does that make a difference?

Okay, no offense, but you are a dumbass......................directed to thread starter.
Let your fucking upper body heal or you are gonna really fuck it up. I used to pop my left shoulder out every fucking day,
a) because it looked cool and chicks fucking dug it
B) because it looked cool and freaked guys out
c)because it looked cool and I couldn't afford to have my second surgery on it

Finally had my second surgery on it and let it heal properly this time. There will be plenty of time to regain your strength. Let that shit heal, bro.

I'll second that. As soon as the body is injured strength and size need to take a back seat to recover. Don't do any upper body movements until it's completely healed.

Uhhh... no.

The tendon is what transmits the force that the muscle exerts. No tendon, muscle is pretty much worthless.

Let it heal properly, ask the doctor what to do, and get into physical therapy as soon as the doc will let you.

Exactly, it's like wanting to take your car to the track with a slightly twisted drive shaft. It may be strong enough to get the car moving, but you better not drop the clutch at 5 grand.

Damn, I'll give it few weeks and see where I am. If its not a lot better I'll just up the juice a little so I don't lose all of the mass.

Juice might be what got you into the problem in the first place. On the "juice" your muscles will adapt to stress and load much quicker than your tendons. The tendons become over used and abused and rupture.

If it is a true tendon tear a few weeks isn't going to matter. I had a full tear Oct 2 of my achilles tendon and I'm just now to the point I can walk without a noticeable limp. I was able to get back to the bike in two months but I still can't run. I still cannot get a single calf raise going while I can do a couple hundred with my good leg. This was with surgery.

Tendons take a very long time to heal.

Well, I was being sarcastic. I wouldn't get away with roids, I know too many people that have gotten caught in random tests. The reason its torn isn't because I worked it to hard. Its because I took a blow to the chest and the ribs got pushed away from it.

Sorry, my sarcasm meter doesn't work on people with less than 30 posts.

I was wrestling in a tournament in Penn. I went to five point him and he tripped me out half way. His shoulder came down right on my chest. But I didn't think I was hurt that bad and I finished the match since it was the semi's. My coach forced me to medical forfeit the final.
