Any big cyclist in here?

Off or on road, wondering who spends a lot of time on their bike?

I picked it up last year as a good means of getting around while dropping weight for crew. Been in a few local races, although I haven't really competed...just finished. I now bike about 20 mi. a day total. Commute for about 10, work out for about 10. On the weekends, weather permitting, I aim for a full 20-25 work out.

I picked up a 2003 frame Giant TCR-2, aluminum frame/carbon fork. Absolutely love it. Was looking at a bunch of new OCR-1s and OCR-2s back at the time and one shop had this in the back, was an amazing deal.

I have a Specialized Transition Elite tri bike Mavic Ksyrium wheels and a Trek front suspension mountain bike (what ever came on the bike)

I'm about 90/10 road to trail biking. I typically trail bike with my oldest daughter.

When I'm not nursing a ruptured achilles tendon I typically ride about 120 miles a week (110 on the road and 10 on the trails with the kid) along with swimming and running. I get to swim again in two weeks but both leg cycling and running isn't until February according to the doc. I'm biking "well legged" on the mag trainer at the moment to try to keep as much cardio as possible.

I have Austin down in the race calendar for Sept 07 for the Longhorn 1/2 ironman triathlon.

Nice bikes, ARH/Exlude.

My 401K is now a 400K (was 301K)

I spent years road racing, then mountain biking. I loved it, but like you, didn't have enough time to train "properly". On a road bike, that's 200-250 miles a week. 30-40 miles each weekday, 50 mile rides on the weekend, with Wednesday or Thursday off. I raced in the Sport Class on a mountain bike for several seasons, and had a blast. It took MORE time to train, because I was first driving to Cedar Hill State Park to ride! I discovered just how slow I was...there are some 40+ year-olds that can FUCKING FLY! Now I spend 45-50 minutes a day on my Lifecycle...

Damn you Exlude, I just moved away from Austin in June...wish you would have been down there earlier so we could have gone riding. I'm out in Cali now, but just go down to some of the bike shops and find out when their little racing GTG's are. Supposedly many bike shops get together on Fridays to go biking and then out to lunch...

Yeah, I don't know about cancer, but you can get a good case of Prostitiis for damn sure. I've been lucky, as I still spend 45-50 minutes a day (6 days a week) on a Lifecycle. Toughens the ol' taint right up...

Not a big cyclist, per se, but I have been going to the Rowlett Creek Preserve trails every Wednesday and Sunday, weather permitting. I do about 50/50 on/off road with my mountain bike. I try to get in 50 miles a week. dorba.org has a lot of good info on trails, events, races, etc.

Dude, i ride all the time, dont say Im not constructive, it was more of an inquiry on how he puts up with the abuse, and he saw that. I can respect anyone that puts 50 miles a day on a selle italia seat for sure. Your not a cyclist so you wouldnt understand. Go lift a dumbell Just playing dude, for real.

And Brad, it would cost you about 1500 for a decent bike brand new, 200 for shoes, 200 for pedals, plus another 300 for some bibs and shirts. You can find slammin deals on ebay for cycles, you just have to know what your looking for. Giant TCR tmobile teams are nice, my dad picked one up for 2800 with carbon easton wheelset and duraace pedals, its like a 6000 dollar bike for 2800. Just about as good as my cervelo. You should come ride with me, i need someone to cycle with.

I average about 27-28mph on flat land. I need to get out of my Mavics. I haven't tried any of Austin's highway riding yet, I would like to.

i know that, i can maintain 35mph for a little while on flat, but I mean whats your avg speed over a whole course. I usually have about 25 mph in the first 10-20 min, then over the course of an hour it drops to around 20mph. Its hard to maintain 20mph everywhere, esp on slight uphills when you are beat. And dropping down to 14-15 mph for climbs kills your avg speed....

It's been a while since I rode competitively, but I would cover an average century ride, in about 4:20. That used to be considered pretty fast. The year I had that time at the "Hotter than Hell" ride, the winning time (a pro), was 3:44.

thats almost 25mph dude, that is rippin. The pro with a time of 3:44 had to be going 30 plus most of the way. Thats freakin insane. After 30 min of 25 mph Im dead. I feel inadequate now LOL
