Spare 30 minutes...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...bullshit&hl=en

Penn and Teller's "Bullshit!" show from Showtime. I think that everyone that works out will agree that this show is...for the most part true. I believe that some supplements help...especially protein supplements...but some are...bullshit. Genetics play a big part in how you look so don't think you're gonna be Brad Pitt or something when you start working out. Just know, that you'll look better...and most importantly, feel better than you did when you didn't work out. Technically...this should end all threads in this section. Just excercise. If you don't want to do it...it's probably good for you.

Exactly!...but why not feel better about yourself? Seriously, no matter how ugly you are, if you work out you feel 1,000 times better on the inside.

Good thing I'm sexy.

I honestly want to make millions on a fitness video that relates to normal people. I don't know why it hasn't been done yet.

I was that episode and I'm a huge fan of the show. But I don't have a fat gene. Its not in either side of my family from what I can tell. I just got a nice desk job and let myself go over 5 years. It has taken me less than a year to lose nearly 100lbs. I don't think I could have lost the 36lbs I did in the past 3 months without the supplements though. I keep hearing that the easy weight loss occurs in the beginning. So starting at 271lbs last November and now at 180lbs I can say that supplements have been a big help in at least speeding up my progress and thus keeping my focused and motivated.

Yes, there are people that store bodyfat easier than others, I'm on of them, but you can't store what you don't eat or eat and burn off. Telling someone they are fat becase of genetics just gives them vindication to stay lazy, and eat what they want. After all, you can't fight genetics...

I don't agree with that Aaron. If it is genetic, maybe there can be some sort of research and cure. It's not a cop out to think that possibly genetics plays a huge part into being fat/skinny. I'm not talking about in shape or out of shape, but I know people... for example Ryan B, who doesn't work out, eats, sleeps, drinks on a regular basis, and that's about it. And is rail skinny, so is his brother MattB, so is his dad Mike. Now if all of them have the same "skinny genes", it makes sense.

My grandmother was overweight, my mom too, both dieted, etc, and worked their asses off to maintain a decent weight. Now what if it was genetic, and we found a cure for guys like me, who don't really want to spend time in a gym, if they dont' have to? Would it still be a cop out to working out, or a medical cure to obesity?

Genetics does play a huge roll in how we react to food. Some people have a genetically fast metabolism, and eat what they want, and others (like myself) process food slowly, so every calorie counts. With the exception of a small percentage with severe glandular problems, extra body fat is a result of eating more calories than the body is able to process. End of story. The excuse comes in when someone is unwilling to acknowledge the relationship of how much they eat relates to their body composition, and then blame it on genetics. Matt, I know for a 100% fact that, if you were to eat 2000 calories a day (which is plenty reasonable) continually, you would eventually drop down to sub 15% bodyfat. May not happen over night, but you'll get there. You are eating/drinking well more than that, which is why you carry the extra weight, not because of genetics.

I've done the 1500-2000 calorie diet for a month and a half and i didn't notice a good loss.

I've been thinking about the whole nutrisystem thing, simply because of the prepared meals. Really makes life simple for those of us who are on the go, all over the place. Keeps me from having to worry about, or trying to pre-prepare food. I really don't have time.

That tells me that without exercise, you may need to drop lower than that, or add some cardio. Genetics has everything to do with what a particular individual needs to do to maintain a specific body composition, where I have issue though, is when someone is unwilling (notice that I didn't say unable) to do what is necessary, and then blame it on their body. We all have physical limitations and assets, but it is well within 99% of the population's grasp to be in a healthy range of bodyfat.

Nutrisystem would be great for someone in your situation, it sure as hell beats fast food and Brinker restaraunts everyday.
