Do you do cardio?

A couple of times within the past few months I've been at Bally's and had a couple of generic questions. In the process, two different trainers have discouraged doing cardio activity. Well, at least for weight loss, stating you'll burn more calories on a hard workout on weights than you'll do during cardio. While that may be true, shouldn't everyone do a balanced workout that includes some form of cardiovascular exercise?

What do you guys do? Do you do cardio on the same day as weights? Before? After?

Go for intensity if you want to maximize fat loss while maintaining muscle mass. I've been trying out that gorrila cardio stuff that was posted awhile back and have noticed more fat loss while not burning up my muscles. Before, I would usually do cardio for about 45-60 mins and it killed muscle growth, now it's down to 15-30 while upping the intensity, depending on the type of cardio.

20 min warmup on a bike or treadmill.

Lift hard.

30 min. of more cardio. Usually on a bike... most days just go pretty hard straight through, some days I'll do intervals instead.

Which one do you go to? They told me the same at the one in Carrollton, lifting, not running.

I generally do not include cardio in my routine. But I've been focusing only on fat loss and I figure the best way is to build more muscle to burn more fat. But I have a contest at work to win so I'll be adding an hour of cardio after my weight training 4 times a week minimum.

a good mix of weights and cardio is the best way to lose fat as the added muscle will increase your metabolism, but they need new jobs if they're telling you NOT to do cardio to lose weight!!

lifting weights w/ high reps and little rest between sets IS cardio!

Thats actually not true. You should have a balance of cardio and weight training, not just cardio or weight training. The secret is to do interval training. Go hard for 10 on the tread or bike, weights for 20 min, bike or tread again for 10, weights for another 10 and then finish it with a short swim or again bike. (Swimming is the best cardio you can do and it is the easiest on your body (resistance and less impact). It has worked for me but, everyone is diffrent. Just exparament(sp) and see what works for you. Just my 2c

You have to pay for a membership to lift, and hopefully for a few sessions to have them tell you how. Not many people need to be shown how to jog, and running outside is free. Any "trainer" that tells you not to do cardio to lose weight needs to have their certs revoked.

Oh no!! I did some cardio this morning.. I feel fatter already.

I cardio after the weights, some times warmup a few minutes on the mill just to get the juices flowing. I lift hard and rest as little as I can and still blast the weights.

Do weights and the cardio.. If you do cardio and then weights, you will be burned out...but some go that route. If you do weights first, your body will burn fat much faster as opposed to doing cardio alone. I'm not just saying that just from reading but from experience. Dropped 28 lbs since Nov and now I'm 155lbs.. 5'5'.. I know I know i'm short . I was also a trainer at 24hr back in '98. Trainer at 24, membership at Ballys.. go figure

I do cardio first thing in the morning, and hit the weights after work. One never interferes with the other, except for when I hit legs hard, and have to jog with sore quads the next morning.

Tonight I ran for about 17 mins, then walk the ran for 5 more before I was wore out. I did some lifting after on one of the machines, then did the eliptical for about 10. I just quit after that, man I'm outta shape

Many people do cardio in morning and hit weights in the evening. I used to do weights early morning and it wore me out for the rest of the day but dammmm my metabolism was on fire!

OMG, I'm so stupid. I use a treadmill and elliptical for about 45 min in the morning and am exhausted and really don't hit the weights much...... Why I never thought of doing my weights in the evening is sheer stupidity. Changing routine today.

I like to get it done all at once. I don't want to have to use the Bally's shower to get ready in the morning, and Bally's is between work and home. I've done cardio after lifting a couple of times, and I think it's a lil easier to lift if you haven't burned yourself up from cardio beforehand. Hrm.

When I was more consistant with my workouts...I would warmup 5 minutes on the eliptical...then lift 30-45 min. depending on what I was working that day....then 30 minutes on the eliptical again.

Been riding my bicycle the last couple of months instead of going to the gym.
