Who's looking forward to fatty week at the gym?

Yep, its that time of year again. When the New Years resolution rolls into town for a week or two. The gym will be full of them this week and next, after that things get back to normal. Let's all huddle around and share stories. Surely we'll see plenty worth talking about. Last year I saw a guy with a jelly donut on the treadmill. No really.....

I brought two towels when i went in last night. One for me and the other to wipe down the waterslides (called benches during the rest of the year)

Funniest one last night was a potbellied middle age man trying to do an unassisted dip. He got up just fine, but as soon as he started to move downwards he lost it and fell to the ground in a heap. Twisted his ankle.

Damn it, I'm at work and forgot the extra towel. I don't know what I'll do.

It probably won't matter, this time last year the place was so crowded that I just gave up and went home.

My favorite place to hang is around the dumbbells. I learn all sorts of new exercises to do with them. I can't imagine what muscles some of the movements are supposed to work.

I haven't been in since the new year rolled around. I'll be up there to do chest in a bit, there better be some hotties to make up for all of the dumbasses trying to cram a life time of fitness into some special 8 week program.

I like the ones that try to do the "Mac Davis" impression from North Dallas Forty and mimic throwing a football with a 10lb dumbell.

Oh I can't wait to get back into the gym at the university, the first 2-3 weeks will be horrible because of all the transfers and new years resolution'ers. God I'm just going to try to go in early morning so I don't have to see all those people. I might go in later in the afternoon to do cardio though, see if any new people worth a damn pop up.

My gym seemed to be immune from the holiday rush, I only saw one person doind momentum curls. Of course the weeks isn't over yet, tonite may have been slow due to football on tv tonite.

It wasn't bad tonight. I had at least five resolutioners that I could easily point out. Then again, I got there at about 7:15 and it was raining so hard that I could barely see while driving. So there was a handy pre-made excuse already for the resolutioners.

"It's raining, I don't think I want to go work out, I think I'll stay home and eat some Cheetos. Ohhh look, Friends is on. This is the one where Joey gets a colostomy bag...." and so on

hate that shit. It gets bad here at school end of next week when everybody comes back to town. right now there are like 5 other people total in the gym, it rocks.

It gets crazy till spring break. then its back to quasi normal-which is still crowded till everybody heads to the hills for summer!

I always hate the beginning of the new year. The gym will be PACKED! Luckily it is usually worse at the beginning of the week. All of the cardio machines will be taken (that's why I do it in the morning) and everyone will be wanting to bench press (that's why I do chest on Satudays). Today is shoulders, so hopefully I can get to my stations.

Leaving for work this morning I saw the most horrific sight.

A new resolutioner wearing sweat pants she last wore 80lbs ago. The fabris was stretched so tight you could hear the individual fibers of the fabric cry out in agony.

Bleh.

I'll bet the crotch has been scorched out of them by the tremendous friction generated.

There is no rain YET today so I can imagine the horrors that await me tonight. I'll be doing deadlifts so at least I'll be in the corner away from the dirigibles.

Look at it this way, Al.

Basically, they lose money on people like you and I who actually frequent the gym. They make up for it by the resolutioners who buy into contracts and never come to the gym.

If it weren't for them, you'd probably pay about double what you are paying now.

I love it when they give you that look like Smeagol gaurding his precious ring.

me "can I work in with you"

them "I've got 6 more sets"

me (while adding weight) "cool, I've only got 4 and I'll be outta your hair"

me "I only do 4, I'll be outta your way before you're done"

Hehehehe....i been a member at the same place for about 6 years now. $17 a month. Let those fuckheads get them some of that.

I love it when they run the specials and the dude at the front desk scans your card and says "Hey, do you want to save $10 a month on your membership?"....trying to run the latest scam they got.

He scans mine and looks at the computer screen "Hey, do you want to.....Uh nevermind, you don't pay squat to workout here..."

Haha, see that's the thing, even I wear tennis shoes to the gym. So I know other people can do it too!

There was a grand total of 5 people in the gym this morning, no New Year people!

I'm a George Strait junkie.
