Yup. Unless of course, you are training for a marathon, or triathlon, or swimming, etc.
I just switched back to cardio then weights last week. I wanna run some tris this year with a little twist from before... all off-road tris.
5am with masters swimming (7 days a week)
7am weights (3x a week)
7am core strength (abs/hips/lower back on the ball with dumbells, 3x week)
8am 30 minutes stretching (7 days a week)
noonish running (5 days a week)
pm biking (6 days a week, late morning sunday after church - bike then run)
Only thing that sucks in January is the weather for biking. I've got my rollers for the garage, but it is as boring as riding the spin cycles at the gym. Maybe I can get the hottie from down the street to dance naked for me while I'm riding on the rollers in the garage.
I find most of the advice from triathletes that lift weights to be a little wrong. Most do high reps, trying to prove muscular endurance.
I have a staple of bench press, power cleans and squats in 5x5 fashion. Don't need big muscles, just strong muscles. Endurance from swimming, biking and running. Also getting older, need my ligaments and tendons to get some use with high weight/low reps.
