story of my life...
at 170 you require alot more protin and amino acids than you did at 140.
alot! more thats the problem. eating all the tiem is good, but if its not enough
then its not helping. You have to OVERsupply the muscle with protein and AA's to gain.
what will happen is when your recovering from a workout and you dont have energy and protein to burn. your body will take it from other muslce groups and then they get small/weaker.

if your absoultly postive its not protien supply and eating habbits then

work out larger muscle groups more like legs. a HARD leg wrkout should leave you wanting to throw up,lol and if untouched while you workout other muslce groups and can really sprout growth. the same for back

change the routine up too

I was stuck at the 175 - 180 range for over 6 months. I finally tried upping my protein intake. I ate better also. I started eating a ton of Tuna. One day I had tuna 3 times by noon! (not recommended - blah) I almost doubled the protein and fianally grew more. But that wasn't all. I had taken a 5 day vacation where I didn't workout at all and I was not takign in any Protein Powder at all. I slept a lot! I mean a lot! and I came back and hit the weights the first full day back and was able to lift more that workout then previously. I upped the protein and added another hour of sleep to my regular routine and just generally ate a little more than normal. I was able to add 5 lbs of weight to my bench every week until I ran out of weight to add ( home gym blues). I gained about 15 lbs in a month.

Here is the strange part. I slowed down on the eating and the rest fell back to the previous schedule but I have kept the protein up and I am not gaining weight now. So I just took another 5 days off completely from lifting and concentrated on more sleep and today I start back. Hoping to add another 25 lbs to the bench and gain another 10 - 15 lbs in the next month and a half or so. We'll see if this will actually work 2 times in a row. Something in that combination of things caused me to start growing again if not all of it together. We'll see soon!

OK, update already. I just got done with my first workout after that rest period. On bench I did the first set with the highest weight I had used previously, no problem. Added 10 lbs and did the second set, no problem, for the third set I added another 10 lbs, it was challenging, but I got a complete set. Looks like the rest thing does play a huge part! And I am going to have to up my goals here again because that extra 25 lbs on the bench is only 5 lbs away now. lol.
As far as growing , that should come easily now that the heavier weights are going up and I am back to the heavier eating and more protein diet again.

so, DallasGt01, I'd say take a break of about a week completely away from any workouts. And up the protein intake some and make sure you are getting enough rest at night. Eat enough to support growth and you should see some results.

Basically you need to lift lots of heavy weight, eat alot of protein and get plenty of rest. Don't run if you can walk, don't walk if you can sit... I'd like to hear what your current routine is before giving my opinion on what to do.

You probably just hit a plateau... happens to everyone.... just try mixing some things up.... how tall are you? what is your frame like? oh and dont listen to people telling you to quit exercising.... you can gain without getting fat.... plus you are only 21... give it a few more years and you will probably be watching what you eat instead of trying to gain weight.... just do like everyone is telling you and lift as heavy as you can, focus on lifting more each week, when you get stuck mix up your lifting routine...try to get somewhere around 250-300 grams of protein in a day and you WILL see more gains.... hell I bet I could gain more weight in solid muscle than most people can in fat in a month and I do cardio 4-5 times a week for 1 hour and a half... good luck

One more q', why do you want to gain weight? To get stronger or just to look more muscular?
