Push and Pull comp at my gym

Hey

there will be push and pull comp at metro flex in jan. I will give the exact date when I get that info, but it will be on a saturday. so all the bench pressing, deadlifting freaks come and compete. I will try the deadlifting this yr, I am sure I won't win but I might get a top 3 finish.

you should do it, if you haven't done it before you can compete in amature and you should crush those in your class. it is a santioned (sp?) event

naa. im not really into ORM stuff anymore..maybe in my younger days.. now i just stick to lighter weighs for more reps.. plus.. im pretty sure the most i could ORM right now on the bench would be 500ish lbs (hit 455 for 4on sat ) so i cant compete with the big guys.

Ummm, I'm happy to hit 80-90, 40 times x 3 sets. However, I know there is no way in hell I'd successfully do 400lbs without it crashing through my chest and all that gorey stuff. Ya should do it just to work the muscles. I run 10K races just to get the run in, never finish in the top 5.

Dunno why I chimed in, seemed like everyone else was pingin' ya I guess.

Take care

if you hit 500 on bench then you shouldn't have any problem taking 1st in your class. last yr my trainer won with 550 I think but he can't compete in that level again since he won

there are weight classes, and it is also broken down to either amatuer or pro(it is called something else) and depending on the number of people it can be broken down by age.

Yeah, I used to think the same thing until I started doing high reps w/ low weights. I'm not going for a big look, just trying to keep the fat down and all. Do a lot of reps kills me worst then doing heavy weights. Plus, it something you can do on a small home gym. I'm more about muscle endurance then muscle strength. I do so many reps, because I used the first to warm up, the second I really start hurting and by the 3rd the burn is there for sure. All 3 reps are at the same weights. Works well for me, and it gives ya some muscle tone.

I gotta admit though, I feel like a putz always taking off weights. Also, lifting those kind of weights in the same room with people doing the less reps w/ more weight. Gotta do what ya gotta do though.

Take care

Well, it's your body. I also don't want to hi-jack this thread... however, "tone" is technically whether or not the muscle is tense or not. Most people use it to mean the absence of a fatty covering.

Why not do pushups? The more compound the exercise the better it is for you... ok ok, I'll stop the hi-jacking.

Ex-Army, got sick of doing pushups. Plus, the floors/ground over here tend to be filthy while the benches are relatively clean. Also, I kind of enjoy doing the routine I do and that is what helps me stay on track. *I* will also hush up too for this thread.

Take care

pushups arent exactly as efficient as doing a Free weight movment if you do it right. IE if you have a slight shoulder injury, with a pushup you are stuck doing 65% ish of your body weight.. with weights you can "tune" the work out to your injury or desire. High reps = stamina.. if i wanted to have insane musle stamina i would train to do 30-40 reps.. yes i wouldnt be near as strong as i am now.. but i would still move decent weight alot of times. IMO for me.. 15-20 reps is " high reps"

Oh I can put up ~275 lbs., but I bet anyone that weighs 180-190 at the competition will be putting up closer to 375 lbs., so HELL NO for me . Plus I'm down in austin

Why do we need to "prove it" to anyone? I lift for ME.

Besides, at 250lbs only benching 375lbs I wouldn't stand a chance. WL is probably one of the few here that would really be able to compete. That is if he cared about "proving it" to someone.

I'd love to compete in one of those events but I'm a pussy. I'm weighing in at about 208 and can bench maybe 350 or so, squat 370, deadlift 425 or so (all raw, not even a belt). I wouldn't want to embarass myself. I really need to get my squat on up there.

I dont do heavy weights on squats and deadlifts so i wouldnt do good.
I guess a 315 bench at 175lbs is good though.

this is an open comp with real judges so only the good lifts count, I just some of the tough guys would like the chance to prove it, but hey it is all good if you are happy with what you do fine. but you all should be quick to reconsider calling anybody lift bullshit from this point on. at least with this event you have a certified judge saying you lifted a weight.

also greg this is only a bench and deadlift event.

this is the most retatded thing i have seen you post yet.. do you know how many pro bodybuilders have NEVER EVER competed in a strength contest??? do you think that means they cant call BS on your lifts? I have competed before.. does that mean i have to compete every time some dipshit posts a competition? no. Does it invalidate my lifts because i dont want to ? No. I posted vids of me repping 405 on the bench 10 times. and 150lbs dumbells.. so untill you can do that i guess it means all of your lifts are bullshit since there is no proof...

1st off I never said that you didn't lift that, nor was that intended for you. it for the other people who are all quick to call bull shit on what other people lifted. as for your reply to asking me to come work out with you, that was never given to me. but I have asked for anybody that wants to work out with me on legs to come to my gym and I will pay your day cost, if they charge you anything at all.

the real question is why are you getting so defensive all of a sudden?

it looks like I won't reach my goal before the meet of 500 deadlift so I might not even place in the top 5 but you know what I want to find out for myself. I am not trying to prove anything to anybody, either, but at the same time I don't call bull shit on people I have never meet about how much he or she can lift.
