Shoulders

Man, I need some shoulder work. Mine are tiny. Front Delts are ok, but the side and rear heads are small. I decided to add a day just for them for a little while to see if I can get some difference. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Todd

You need to include a seperate shoulder workout if you want to develope them equally with the rest of your muscles.

As for exercises try:

Shoulder Presses (Dumbbell or Barbell)
Lateral Raises (Dumbbell or Cables)
Bent over Barbell Raises (works entire upper back as well as rear delts)
Front Dumbbell Raises
Upright Rows (Barbell)
Shrugs (Dumbbell or Barbell)

That should be plenty if you are just starting to isolate the shoulders.

I know a guy that has killer shoulders and he swears that too many people overwork them. The only shoulder workout that he does is the arnold presses. He does 4 sets twice a week and nothing else.

I'm not sure that he is right so here is what I do:
Arnold presses (3 sets of 12)
Military presses (3 sets of 12)
Shrugs (3 sets of 8)
Lateral raises (3 sets of 8)
Front dumbell raises (3 sets of 8)

He probably has naturally well developed shoulders(genetics), but he is right most people over work their shoulders. They don't realize that you use your shoulders in almost every upper body workout, mostly chest and back. You should only have a shoulder day once a week, but you should have a full workout multiple exercises to isolate every part of the shoulder for proper development.

todays shoulder workout was:

dumbell military press. pretty light, very slow, very controlled, very painful lol
cable lateral raises, light, very slow
cable front raises, light, very slow

sometimes do front plate raises instead of front cable or dumbell raises.. upright rows i throw in sometimes.. and sometimes a rear delt exercise on the cables or reverse pec-dec

Well, I realize I get shoulder work on my other exercises, but I"ve been skimping on the actual sholder work itself. I was doing overhead presses with my bicep day. I am going to use a separate day just for shoulders for a few weeks and see if I can see any improvement.

Thanks for the suggestions on the exercises to do. I'll add more of those in this week's shoulder day.
