A slow burning one. (Complex) Like whole grains and stuff.

One that doesn't dump a whole lot of sugar into your system at one big ol' time. (simple) Which really jacks up your blood sugar level.

complex carbs good, simple carbs bad.

complex = pasta, breads etc.

Complex carbs are harder to break down therefore they last you longer..

simple = candy, sugar, sweets etc.

Simple carbs are easy to break down.. You get a huge rush and then an even harder fall.

I am exhausted during the day. I'm trying to keep the carbs down and still get a good workout. I have no energy in my workout and I'm falling asleep in my chair.

Should I eat some pasta or bread at lunch? I work out right after work. The energy is just not there.

I'm not tryiong to loose a whole lot of weight those who know me can see there ain't much to loose. I'm just trying to trim as I build.

Another thing is. I was reading some of your work outs. Am I doing to much cardio?

I run about 2 miles each day after I lift and then on my off day off from lifting during the week. (wednesday). I run 3-4. then I take the weekend off.

1.) You work out a whole lot!
2.) You need to find out about how many gs of Carbs you are getting right now.

3.) Adjust your carb intake to where you still are getting fat loss. I would suggest getting you some Keto strips to help you judge how many gs of carbs take you out of Ketosis. Then back down from there.

Simply put you don't get enough carbs to sustain your high level of activity

Yeah, but is it to much? I just work out alot of days I think. It only takes me about an hour. Maybe 1.5 a day.

I'm staying under 30 a day. Probably over kill.

What are Keto strips? Ketosis? Seriously I don't know this stuff. This is just my old off season workout for basketball. Back then the nutrition didn't matter as much.

I wouldn't say that you work out too much. You just work out too much for the little amount of carbs you take in. 30gs a day is why you are tired. You only work out 1.5hrs but, it seems intensive.

I got my Keto strips from The Smoothie Factory from about $4.00. They are little strips that you hold in your urine stream to see if your body is buring fat. When your body burns fat it is evidenced by the presence of Ketones. There's a color chart on the box that lets you know if you have a trace amount or if you have a lot of Ketones.

You would probably still lose weight if you went to about 45-50gs a day. Try eating a bowl of instant oatmeal 1.5 hrs before a workout. Or try a peanut butter sammich on whole wheat.

Don't eat pasta or white or enriched wheat bread. They are just hidden simple sugars. (Flour)

To answer your specific question Nic, complex carbs are the "good" carb. They are much higher on the glycemic index and have alot lesser affect on insulin production, by being a "slow-burn" carb that have a much flatter affect on energy levels and metabolism. A sugar rush may feel great at the time, but it wreaks havok metabolically.

BTW Use "Regular" oatmeal. Not the flavored ones, they're all sugarfied.

Sweeten with Splenda or Equal.

What about the 27carbs in OJ and 23g of sugar... does that mean my daily intake of OJ is bad?

Juice isn't really good for weight loss. It has vitamins that you need but, you can get those same vitamins in one orange than in a glass of juice, without all the sugar.

So just eat an orange.

Don't forget skim milk, it's like water with carbs and protein. Great for adding clean calories.
