Thumbs up Back in the gym after 7 months off.......

I injured my shoulder (not at the gym) and took a hiatus from all working out.

I left off weighing 170 and working out with 225 bench.

Now I weigh 180 and am working out with 135, LOL.

It'll come back.. I am working on just getting my wind back, and getting the muscles working again.

Why are you doing bench after a shoulder injury? It's one of the hardest lifts to do on the shoulder. Try some DB's if need to do chest.

Well I was just testing stuff out, not pushing it.

It's a rotator cuff, it's more of a range of motion thing than anything. I just wanted to see what I could tolerate.

Just be careful. Rotator cuffs do not like bench at all.

Remember how long that 7 months was?

Just when you think it's healed, you probably have a couple more months of strengthening before it is fully recovered. Just letting you know from my experience. Glad to hear you're back in the gym!

Patience is definitely a virtue right now, you'll get back to your old stats in time, but rushing will do nothing but cause injury and pain. Congrats on getting back into the swing of things, your body thanks you.

What they say is totally true i had a rotator cuff injury, no tear or anything major but it took me over 2 years to recover, because my idiot self kept trying to lift soon after i thought my injury was gone. It is still not to the point where i can throw a ball like i used to be able to and doubt it ever will be. Just be patient there is no point in damaging something you can use later due to a lack of impatience.

Make sure you always warm up with at least two sets. I do 135 for 12 and then 185 for 8 reps.

Make sure you grip is right too, if it is too wide it will stress your shoulders a lot.

Yeah I am doing some shoulder warmups through the ranges of motion with some 8 lb dumbells that the girls use.

I like the way the 50lb dumbells feel right now, so I am gonna do a few weeks of those, high rep stuff. I'm keeping my chest jutted out during the reps, too. It seems to take a lot off of the shoulders.
Couple of months and I should be throwing some decent weight around (for my size) again.

It was cool back in the day when my little ass was doing 100lb dumbells in each hand !

God, I need to start working out again. When I was 17 I was 170 maxing out at 255 on bench. Now I'm 19, 155lbs, don't work out and would be lucky to put up 185.

I've taken about a month off due to a muscle injury, it's been hard to stay away
