can you regulate a vss signal?

I am wondering if you can regulate a vss signal via a potentiometer or rheostat? Could it be placed inline between the signal wire and the cluster to adjust the speed shown on the cluster?

potentiometers and rheostats increase resistance, speed sensors on modern cars run off a frequency reading from a hall sensor.

so you cant change a hall sensor output with a resistance.

It's not a matter of current or resistance. The VSS is basically a waveform generator (magnetic pickup and a tone wheel). The ECM just counts the pulses (frequency). The only way to change the output to the speedo is going to be in the ECM (change the pulses/mile count parameter).

As soon as I typed that, I found this. It's a way to adjust and tune it, but whatever they're doing inside of it is not as simple as just wiring in a rheostat.

Thats exactly the thing I am looking for. Anyone know what that pulse count is for the vehicles listed that thing fits? Or better yet what the hell is that thing doing that I could not make myself with on order from digikey? I would also like to have it on a twistable knob instead of dip switches or several small adjustable wheels.
