How about you support a local business and go see EW instead of buying shit from some online retailer?

i've been buying from them for years. i buy the refurbished stuff . brand new just had a blemish. the kenwood for my truck cost 78 dollars instead of almost 300. they have to sell for a repair cost. i buy speakers without grilles. those little bastards are 35 to 55 bucks a set.

They've got a pretty good deal on a pair of jl 10s or 12s with a 500x1 for $349 or the 250x1 for $299. I haven't run subs in several years, but this has me contemplating getting some.

I'm going by memory here but I believe I've got 5x7's all the way around in my 95 Vert. Been years since I actually listened to the stereo in that car but they sounded pretty damn good. JL Audio 5x7's, can't remember what size amp I had pushing them at the time. Got a JL Audio Stealth Box in the trunk with a 10" woofer to.

And another vote for supporting a local business like EW. Great guy and he stands by his work and offers solid advice.

yep, they are still in business. i've been buying from them for years. best customer service i've ever experienced purchasing items online or by phone. you can get really good deals on their outlet and scratch & dent items. lifetime tech support on purchases. that's why their retail prices can be high on certain items. they have an excellent business model.

Just FYI, in the car audio world, 6x8 and 5x7 are interchangeable 99% of the time.

6x9's won't work unless you won't to do some cutting. My 5x7's are plenty loud to be heard with the top down and the 10" JL sub I have in the trunk is fine for me. I've got a bigger amp now that will be a better match for the speakers (I was running two smaller amps before) but it's not installed yet. Might have to take care of that soon since all the wiring is there.

5x7-6x8 will be fine you just need more power so they can overcome road/wind noise. On bass, an 8" won't even be heard in that car and a 10" is just barely cutting it even with a big sub amp. Power is your friend.

You do know that 300v is a shit ton of power into any normal impedance. There is no chance of his charging system supporting that.

Elvis, I bought 2 pair of (relatively) cheap Alpine Type S speakers from EW to put in my old lady's car, and they sound a lot better than I was expecting. They are 6x9, but I'm pretty sure they make a 5x7 as well. I also have used some of the lower-level (cheaper) JL lines in the past with good results. You might check those out, as well as whatever else EW has to offer. I would definitely amplify your front speakers at least, and probably all 4 since it's a vert, and obviously the sub. Don't waste time trying to run anything off of the head unit power.

Adam, you have a car audio hookup? Know anyone that does good fiberglass work for less than a billion dollars? I need my front door panels glassed to hold my 8" midbass drivers. No need for paint, as I'll be covering them in suede. Depending on how that turns out, and price, I may do a custom center console, too.

Sorry for the thread hijack!
