2006 jetta

Anyone mess with the car audio on these cars. Got a quote from car toys and it was 1000 dollars for 380 dollar cd player with nav. And a warranty so really 500 for labor, anyone know of a hood audio guy. Wanting to do the jetta and 02 chevy truck.

I've had EW Hardwire a radar detector, and most recently install my alpine head unit. Great work, and great prices.

That's ridiculous!

But, be ready to spend more than on most cars on that Jetta... I have a VW GTI and these fuckers use a CAN-BUS system that makes it damn near impossible to use a simple harness adapter or even hard-wire to install a head unit. They require an expensive module that "converts" the VW CAN-BUS info into a usable 12V lead, proper lighting, dimming, etc.
Online these things sell for as much as $129 online PAC-Audio, I would assume that Car-Toys marks those up significantly.

As if that wasn't bad enough, if your car has steering wheel audio controls, get ready to add another $170 in damn CAN-BUS adapters that can keep these functional:

And you don't even want to know how much of a pain in the ass it is to upgrade speakers on these... 3-way components!!!
