Dish Network

Does this provider just suck when it comes to watching sports in HD? I hardly ever get any games in HD with Fox Sports Southwest and local channel 21 is not even offered in HD. So there goes all the mavs, starts, and rangers in HD on 21.

Does Direct TV have these problems?

I've had DISH for nearly two years now. I don't have any problems with their service outside of intense thunderstorms or heavily accumulations of snow.

It's been pretty consistent and reliable for me.

Tim, mine hardly ever looses service. It is very reliable and I have had good customer service. But, I am tired of them not broadcasting in HD on some stations or programs.

This is my only complaint about Dish Network. DTV doesn't even have duo receivers so I would have to get 2 more receivers to watch tv in the same rooms.

I am not upset about the signal or the equipment. Channel 21 isn't in HD AND the Rangers were on Fox Southwest but in the non-hd channel. WTF? I can't watch any local sports in HD?

I have Dish Network and Im happy with it. I've been with them for nearly 10 years. The customer service sucks, but it is still my best option for the most HD programming possible and independent receivers in at least 4 rooms.

I have Fox Sports Southwest in HD. Why don't you?

Dish has the local channels 4, 5, 8, 11, and 33 in HD. If you want channel 21 in HD, all you need is a set of rabbit ears.

Go to your guide, then all sub, then see if there is another fox sports sw that's in HD. If not, call them up and get the correct package. It's available.

I have fox southwest in HD. The ranger game last night was played on the NON-HD fox southwest and not on the hd southwest. That is what pissed me off. I have been using the rabbit ears for 21. But you know how that goes, get a picture, walk away, no more picture. I don't pay for HD satelite just to have to go back to 1990 and use rabbit ears.

Of course, the game is much clearer with rabbit ears.....that is, if I can get it to stay on.

As mstng86 said, I have Fox Sports Southwest in SD and HD but they don't always broadcast in HD. Yesterdays Rangers game was in SD only. Today's ranger game is in HD. This seems to be the case on a lot of the broadcasted games for the stars, mavs, and rangers.

Ya, but that's a Fox thing and not a Dish Network thing, right?

You haven't dealt with Dish's customer service or tried to cancel your service. When you do, then you will understand my hate.

I haven't tried to cancel my service but I did have to ask for a new receiver since I was getting no picture on local channels. They sent me a new receiver and gave me a pre paid postage to send it back. I actually spoke to a English speaking person as well.

Sometimes the lack of HD content on a particular channel will not necessarily be the fault of the cable provider. The content has to be recorded with an HD camera and supporting equipment. Not every TV production company has made the conversion yet. I had Spike HD and use to watch Horsepower TV and Trucks in SD, until Powerblock TV decided to make the conversion to broadcast in HD this past season.

Just keep in mind your cable provider is playing the content in the format it was recorded in. Unless, you watch a faux HD channel like TBS HD. Where they stretch the image to fit 16x9 and it's obvious that it's not in correct proportion. Or you deliberately stretch 4:3 to 16:9 in your TV settings. If you want 100% HD all the time, then you have to watch channels like HDNet and Discovery HD Theater. Because that's what they specialize in, broadcasting premium HD programming to showcase the technology.

I just don't get one day they broadcast a live Rangers game from Arlington in SD and the next day they broadcast a live Rangers game from Arlington in HD.

Or at least with Dish Network this is the case.

Here is your answer. It has nothing to do with DISH.

"The problem is this: The demand from sports fans for the HD technology has come so fast it has outstripped FSN's ability to deliver it. This is particularly true when the dates and sites of games are not known well in advance, as is the case with the NHL playoffs.

The various FSN regional networks carry 40 professional teams -- 15 in the NBA, 14 in MLB and 11 in the NHL. All three leagues are playing in April. Yet in its Houston control center, FSN has the ability to produce only seven games a night in HD.

That leaves a lot of disappointed viewers around the country.

FSN is working hard to increase its capabilities.

For example: A truck, which costs about $4 million, is needed on-site to deliver an HD telecast. In 2004-05, FSN had five trucks on the road -- all rented from Mobile TV Group. Currently, FSN has access to 14 trucks, and it expects to have 23 by the end of 2009.

Even if a truck is on site, if there is no path to Houston, the game can't be done in HD. FSN has seven control rooms in Houston. A new control center is under construction in the Houston area that will enable FSN to do every game in HD by 2010."
