iTunes problem-better program or solution?

I've got about 1600 songs that I either ripped from CDs or downloaded long before itunes was around. I try importing them all into itunes and it says the file can't be found. I'm no computer genius, and I'm tired of dicking with this program. All the songs are there on the hardrive, it imports them, then won't upload or play them because it says they aren't there. Can someone give me an idea or solution of what I'm doing wrong? All I want to do is put the fucking music on my phone, it shouldn't be complicated or require an IT master to get it done.

all I do is highlight music on the right side then go to the top and click on file/add folder and then choose the folder with all the mp3's.

Anything is better than iTunes. It ranks right behind quicktime on my list of most worthless programs to deal with.

Songbird is a great, free alternative. Developed by a lot of the same people that developed Firefox. Easy to use, you can modify it to suit your needs if you're interested or leave it alone and be completely satisfied.

I'm also partial to the Zune interface, really user friendly and less bitchy about everything than iTunes.
