Question about LCD vs Plasma for gaming

Hi guys, i want to buy a new tv for Christmas but i'm still debating between plasma and lcd's. Some people say i'll be okay with an LCD and PS3/Xbox 360 and some other say that i need to get a plasma. What do you all think? is it absolutely necesary to get a plasma for gaming?

Thanks

plasmas are being phased out for a reason. I just got a brand new Samsung LCD and play MW2 on it a lot on 360. looks great. A plasma may be a litte cheaper up front but it uses about 30-40% more energy and regaurdless of what they say i wouldnt trust them not to have ghosting isues still.

From what I have read LCD has a faster refresh rate then the Plasmas creating a faster response from your controller to tv which is better for gaming. I have a DLP but from what I have read if I had to choose between an LCD or a Plasma I would take the plasma. Correct me if Im wrong about response time guys.

Just depends on a couple of things! Plasmas are cheaper and produce great viewing angles and very deep black color! They also produce alot of heat though. Lcds are more expensive and save on energy and heat, and also don't produce glare or reflections if the room has windows facing the tv. I own a plasma and love it but I will buy LCD next.

Samsung 55" LCD TV (LN55B650)

http://shopping.dallasnews.com/ROP/a...=27614677&type=

$1799 in their ad, but it says before in-store savings. Someone on slickdeals said they bought one here in DFW for $1499 in-store. I would go to fry's and if they have this TV buy it in an instant for $1500. That's a great deal.

i've always heard that you want to game on an lcd because of "burn-in" issues with plasmas, but that's a thing of the past, from what i understand. plasmas refresh much faster than lcd and have deeper blacks, but they consume more power, are heavier, and generally have reflection issues...most lcd tvs use a matte screen which cuts down on glare significantly.

i've heard people say that lcds refresh faster than plasmas, but plasmas have a refresh rate of .001 ms vs a 240hz lcd at ~2ms and a 120hz lcd at ~4ms.

check out www.avsforum.com and read up on the pros and cons of both...it seems like the really picky home theater guys are still stuck on plasmas...

Burn-in is less of problem with newer plasmas but I still wouldn't leave a game paused for an hour on it. Most home theatre guys like plasma because it does have better color contrast and better blacks than LCD. These are things that aren't as important for gaming. An LCD will never burn-in.

I don't see any reason to get a 240hz television. Nothing is broadcast/recorded at that speed so the tv has to 'guess' what the in between frames look like. There's a lot of smart math involved to do it but whatever...

The only reason 120hz is nice is that it can do 24fps nicely (120/24 = 5 frames repeated) as well as 30fps and 60 fps. Almost nothing is done faster than 60hz (unless you are using it for a computer monitor playing games).

If it's mostly for playing games and watching TV I would get a LCD. Get a 120hz if you want to spend the extra cash and are going to play blu-ray movies, otherwise I would use that money to get a larger screen that just does 60hz.

In the meantime, you might want to compare the LCD TV ratings between various brands and read the reviews especially the ones that come from the experts.

Just saying.
