question on Blur -Ray and Audio Receivers

ok so I'm looking at getting a blu-Ray player.

There is a Sony for 178
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...=5&item=437627
doesn't say BD live 2.0 but has ethernet port so probably can be upgraded

Dolby® Yes & Dolby® TrueHD bitstream out over HDMI™ (V1.3)
Dolby® Digital plus Decoding Yes
Dolby® True HD Bitstream Output Yes
Dolby® TrueHD Decoding Yes
LPCM Yes (multi channel decoder): Yes (HDMI™ bitstream out)
MP3 Playback Yes (BD-R/RE/DVD+RW/+R/-RW/-R/CD-R,RW)5
dts® Decoding Yes
dts® Output Yes

and a Samsung for 158
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...163&pCatg=7404

IS bd live 2.0
Dolby Dital Decoder : Yes
DTS Decoder : Yes
Dolby Digital Plus Decoder : Yes
DTS HD Decoder : Yes
Dolby True HD Decoder : Yes

my main thing is the audio.. it looks like the sony only had Dobly true hd decoder. where as the samsung has both and is already bd live 2.0.. oh is also cheaper!

My receiver is an Onkyo tx-sr505. I've been looking up info and it looks like if i get one of these receivers it will decode the audio (either in true hd or dts HD), and my Onkyo will act as just an amp to the speakers.
Am I correct on this ?
Which Blu Ray Player would you go with?

Thanks

shm short block, vortech s trim, 3.55's, AFM power pipe,etc..

I would go with the Samsung because of it's Wi-fi capability. And it's generally a good product with a competitive price.

When you have a receiver that doesn't have internal DTS MA & Dolby TrueHD decoding, you have two options.

Option #1 - The Blu-ray, such as the Samsung, will need to have internal decoding of DTS MA & Dolby TrueHD. You will set the Blu-ray player up to output the signal over the HDMI in the form of PCM. Your receiver will need to be able to receive multichannel PCM over HDMI. Open your manual and find out. If it does, then you're in business. It will playback the lossless HD audio codecs. Option#2 - If your receiver has multichannel analog in and the player has multichannel analog out, then you can make it work that way.

My set up is the opposite. I have a Blu-ray player that doesn't have on board HD audio decoding, but my receiver does. Therefore, I set the Blu-ray to bitstream out over HDMI and the receiver does the processing.

cool thanks.
My Receiver is HDMI passthrough so it looks like i'll need to check to see if it has multi-channel analog inputs

This Samsung decodes the audio correct?
