HDMI over Cat5 extenders

I just installed one of these last night, because I was putting my lcd over the fireplace, and the equipment on the opposite wall. I must say it works quite well, and is under $20.00. Works in my opinion as well as the several hundred dollar gefen counterparts do! Check it out.

I heard for HDMI over cat 5 you have to use some special cat 5 for the audio side I believe. Did you use regular cat 5? I almost went this route myself because I had a faily long run of HDMI from my reciever to my projector but ended up using two pieces of HDMI and a adapter and it works surprisingly well. I thought I was going to have to redo it due to noise in the picture but nope.

I didn't run the audio to the tv. I ran 16-4 to an LCR bar, and wired in rears. The cat 5 you are talking about is CAT5e, or you can upgrade to CAT6.

Damn that's a super inexpensive alternative. I'm a big Monoprice fan. Good to know they have these.

When I was working for a big company in Dallas doing a/v; we used. ce labs, gefen, and a few others. these work just as well, and are a fraction of the price. FYI

So you have to run 2 CAT5/6 cables for each HDMI wall plate? Does this handle audio too?

I am curious if this uses all 4 pairs of each cat5. 10/100 only uses the green and orange, the blue and brown are used for gigibit.
I wonder if you can get by with using 1 cat5E or Cat6?
