Picked up a SACD player tonight!

$45 off of Craigslist. Samsung DVD-HD950, will decode DVD, CD, DVD-A, SACD, etc and will bitstream over HDMI.

I also picked up Dark side of the moon and the downward spiral on SACD. I'll report back soon!

Dark Side of the Moon on SACD is fucking incredible. It's the only album I've ever heard on SACD, but it was incredible. The NIN should rock as well.

Nice grab!

Well, I wasn't (so far) able to get it to work the way I wanted, but it still sound pretty good!

I tried to bitstream the DSD SACD data out the HDMI cable, but it appears that this SACD player can't do that. Soooooo.... I had to use the 5.1 outputs and my multichannel input on the back of the receiver. The downside is that my 24bit/192kHz became 24 bit/96 kHz when it entered my receiver (96kHz ADCs for inputs, but 192kHz DACs for outputs).

Either way, the sound was really pretty good! The intro to 'Money' on DSOTM was amazing, as was 'Closer' on NIN 'The Downward Spiral'. I look forward to spending some more time listening to these albums in the next few days.

I tried both bitstream and PCM. Nothing. I switch to CD, I get audio. Back to SACD, nothing. I use the 5.1 outputs, I get sound.

Strange. It probably disables the digital out if you have multi channel enabled. Is there a way to disable the analog?

As far as the 96/24 and 192/24, does that depend on the specific disk?

lol, well that pretty much seals it.

edit:
dont feel bad... i've got my ps3 outputting sacd over optical. it only supports 2ch.

then this kick in the nuts:
Quote:
"Optical output from [PS3] SA-CD remains supported but in 16-bit 44.1 kHz stereo PCM only. "
Quote:
"Can PS3 output DSD audio?
Streaming of the pure DSD signal would be very preferable over conversion to PCM but unfortunately at this moment PS3 does not support that.

Why not?
This is a mystery. Standards and regulations permit it. HDMI from versions 1.2 and up can transmit DSD securely with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). We can only hope that there are no PS3 hardware constraints here and that Sony will issue a firmware upgrade in the future that enables this function. Sony has already released an AV Receiver that accepts DSD input."

Great price. Have you sampled Dark Side of the Moon SACD yet? That is definitely an acoustical experience on a good system.

Yeah, picked up SDOTM. Awesome! I hear that Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John is good as well. Anyone ever heard that?
