Yeah I had to walk out of the store yesterday, they were trying to load me up with a new Harmon Kardon SS unit and a new blu-ray player, I told them bitches I'd be right back and I exited stage left. I already have the HD box from DirectTV, I'm gonna go HDMI on that and then run the sound through my HK unit I have now until I buy a new HK-AVR354 HD reciever. I already have a Sony blu-ray and a PS3, that should hold me over until the blu-ray players come down in price.
If your receiver will take HDMI inputs for multiple devicdes, use the Blu Ray player connected via HDMI to the receiver. That way you can get the Dolby HD and DTS HD sound, otherwise optical and digital coax will not provide the bandwidth to send the receiver those signals.
I used to never hook anyuthing but sound directly to my receiver, but on the new one, I hook DirecTv, and Blu Ray to it via HDMI, Wii via compnent video cables and let the receiver handle it all. One hdmi out cable to the TV and the receiver handles the greatness of pure HD sound it is handed, and I never have to change inputs on the TV, just set the receiver to whatever I want to watch/listen too adn the TV just does it's job.
Well worth the extra $ I spent on the Yamaha upgrade, even tho the older one I had worked great, just did not support the new HDMI stuff.
Do it Henry, go back and get it! You won't regret it...
