True HD sound problem

OK, I got a new Yamaha receiver and a Blu Ray player connected via HDMI cable. I can not get the sound to play in True HD however, just Dolby Digital.

The DVD player is an LG, BH100 (plays HD and Blu Ray DVD's)

The DVD manual says this...

Notes:
Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD capabilty limited to 5.1 channels
Dolby True HD processing for 2 channels only.

WTF does that mean? I thought True HD was only supported via an HDMI connection. This player does not even talk about hooking itself up to an amp via HDMI, only digital coax or optical cables.

Then a little later it says this:

In Bitstream Mode the player does NOT support DTS-HD audio on some HD DVD and abnormal audio will output from audio out jack. To listen to DTS-HD audio, you must set the SPDIF option to PCM.

So, I gues I am asking if I am just fucked on this player and really won;t be able to get True HD sound out of it?

No mater what I set, how I connect it, etc. I can never get the True HD light on the Yamaha to lite up. I t just says PCM and has 2 speakers lit up, or says DOlby Digital,a dn has 7 speakers lit up (sounds good, but it is not True HD!).

Sounds like the player does not support True HD. Well, it recognizes it and essentially downconverts it to 2.1. I believe you have to have an HDMI connection to make it work, and you'll probably need a different player.

This sucks! What Blu Ray player do you have? I don't want to spend much on one, but I do want to be able to send the audio out via bitstream to the receiver and let it do it's job.

I have a PS3. When I play Bluray movies, my Onkyo receiver switches to "multichannel".

Yeah, all connections are HDMI and the Blu Ray player sends it out bitstream. It is 7.1 and shows the little speakers all lit up.

Yamaha RX-V663
Sharp Aquos BD-HP21

good deal.

yea, i was helping a friend with his ps3 bluray setup. with the ps3 you need to use linear pcm to output 8 channel discrete audio over hdmi rather than bitstream otherwise it will do exactly what your LG bluray was.

Yeah, the sound is the same, but I want to see that the receiver is actually doing what I wanted it to do, Bitstream FTW!
