Thoughts on Samsung HL61A750 61" LED DLP?

Saw it on sale at Conn's for $999 and I'm actually looking for a replacement for the TV in my patio and this looked like a good deal. How would it perform in a bright environment?

Rob just bought one, the thread about it is below this one. I don't know what his light situation is like though.

It does pretty well in lit areas. Our living room has a bunch of windows, and the kitchen windows shine into the same area. Of course, direct sunlight makes it hard to see the screen, but the DLP does better than plasma in light, and LCD from what I've heard. And that price is pretty damn good!

I am totally happy with it, wish I woulda upgraded sooner!

I just bought this TV at Conn's yesterday. I was upgrading an older Samsung HL5086W (720p DLP).

Our living room is pretty bright and it looks really good. Direct sunlight will still cause it to wash out quite a bit though but it's watchable. As long as you have a decent over hang on your patio and the sun isn't shining directly on the television then the hl61a750 is a great buy.

Plasmas have pretty bad glare because of their glass screens. If you want a good outdoor patio tv that is going to get direct sunlight i'd probably go with an LCD with a matte screen. I have one in the bedroom and it does a pretty decent job in direct sunlight.

no shit. thats a hell of a deal. they had that same tv at Circuit City for $1899 and you get a 10% off due to them going under.

I have that TV but the lower version of it. Its not LED though.

Man I wish I had jumped on this TV but didn't want to spend the money right now. I'll have to keep an eye out of they do this deal again after I pay off a couple more credit cards.

seemed like a decent deal. the first price listed when just typing in the model on yahoo came up $1300. though, that $999 could've just been the cost on the tv, or a little more.

the 46" lcd 1080p tv I bought on Wed is $1499 msrp. I got it for $1K, which is cost plus 10%. Shows you about how much tv's are marked up. Cables are marked up like a mofo. a $60 HDMI cable is actually like $5. My hdmi cable and sub cable came out to $7 at my cost. the $430 tv stand was $230 my cost. Speakers have a ridiculous amount of markup as well.

On Wed I bought a new Samsung ln46a550 tv, Altra tv stand, pioneer reciever, polk speaker set, and some cables. still need to get a blu ray player.

(ignore the speakers on the tv stand. I haven't gotten my mounts or wireless kit yet).

Looks like they've got it on sale again for anybody interested. Only way I could do it would be to get it financed and I'm not ready to do that yet (although Super Bowl weekend is just around the corner).

I stopped by there today and saw the same thing. I am very interested; but then I would have to find a place for my panasonic 1080p 56" lcd rear projection tv.

Get it, I love the 67" Samsung we got. Picture is better that our old one, and I thought it looked good! Really need to upgrade every 3 or 4 years, technology changes so fast, there is a difference in the pricture quality, even for 1080i/720p broadcasts.

Already have a 1080p 56" that is only a year old. Trying to justify another big screen.

I bought that tv back in August... No problems with it thus far, as far as light... I keep my blinds closed so never really notice any problems. My brother has the same tv but 50" and he gets alot of sun and has not complained. I say the dlp's are great deals until plasma/lcd go down in price. Plus I still find it odd looking at a tv on the wall.

Who Knows...

Big thumbs up on the HLxxA750 models... I have the 61" and love it. In the dark it is amazing, I do have some bleed into the black bar on movies, but its really minor. If you have a lot of sunlight it will wash out the image, but its still fine for TV, if I'm watching a movie I want the room darker. The only other complaints I've heard of is some geometry issues, mine was really good and playing with the cabinet around the screen got it just about perfect.

If you plan on using it with a PC, there is some overscan on all rear projection so you loose a little on the edges.
