Thumbs up 1080P FTW, upgraded from 1080i

Well, we went ahead and bit the bullet and got the Samsung 67" DPL/LED tv yesterday, and I'll tell you what, there is a noticeable difference between 1080i and 1080p on movies. I kept changing the LG dvd player back and forth on the same movie (Transformers in HD), and you could see a noticeable difference. 1080i still looks good, but fucken A, 1080p is fucken incredible!

I really thought the difference would not be as big as what it turned out to be. I figure it would be better, but damn, I was surprised at how much better. $1999 at Best Buy, and it was worth it!

Anyone wanna buy a 3 1/2 year old 61 inch Smasung 1080i DLP tv, LOL!

I was watching I am Legend on Blu-Ray the other night, got done switched over to the news (ch.8) and I thought there was something wrong with my TV, HAHA! It's incredible how everthing is so realistic, I can never go back to regular tv, it really is eye candy.

I never watch channels that are not in HD, I don't think I can, but yeah, 1080P vs regualr HD TV is even a big difference.

And damn, some of the scenes in Transformers were really fucken cool, and Meagan Fox's face has freckels that I've never noticed before, LOL!

OK, let me know if you want to come look at it. I will also be replacing my Yamaha receiver today, I have a 5.1 700 or 600 watt right now.

The TV actually has an extended warranty until June or July 2009, we can still act like it is mine if something happens to it, LOL!

Just a heads up Rob, if you are looking to get the latest format support in a receiver - get one that does DTS-HD and Dolby True-HD, and of course true HDMI switching. Also, 7.1 is no longer overkill or pointless like a lot of people have been saying for years. There are now movies out in 7.1.

Yup, went to Best Buy and picked up the Yamaha RX-V663 7.2-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver. Supports True HD, etc. Should be pretty kick ass!

I was just assuming that 7.2 meant that it has two separate sub outputs.

Is that right, or does it mean something else?

Shit man, you can always squeeze another sub in the room somewhere. The good thing about sub frequencies is that placement isn't as important as your other speakers. Toss it in a corner and enjoy!

Man, it took a while to get everything unhooked/rehooked last night, but damn was it worth it. The new Yamaha sounds awesome! I hear sounds from movies that weren't there before! True HD does make a difference. Technology changes every few years, it is worth the price to upgrade.

I also took the time to add banana clips to all my speaker wires (built into the ceiling, flush mounts) Fuck having to poke the red and black wires into the little holes and tighten the damn cap things ever again!

Yeah Rob, I want to see it too, but with someone with some porn on the screen, you know just to see what how realistic the fleshy colors look like in 1080p.

Whoa there, Jared... if ya put it a really WRONG spot, you'll be able to tell where the sound is coming from.. if you put it in absolutely the BEST spot, you'll never know where it's sitting at, the frequencies will simpy fill the whoe room equally.

That being said.. it's pretty easy to find a satisfying spot.

I don't have Blu Ray porn, maybe some Bikini Destinations, or MANswers on the screen?

The only thing I do not like is the new rack the TV sits on, nowhere to hide the damn wires! It is sorta messy, but one day I will straighten them out and tie them together in little bundles so they are hidden better. They are not obnoxious, just not done really well.

1080i, Bikini Destinations is good enough for a pic.

Sub is to the right of the TV, 7 speakers in the ceiling.

My friend has one and it rocks, of course for gaming it's probably not the best but for the money you can't beat it. Like everything else the best picture for gaming is going to be a plasma and in that size in 1080p they are high dollar, though not as much as they used to be. The Panasonic (58in.) I'm looking at is around $2799. through Amazon, and the 65 inch is 5k. So a DLP LED 61in. for 1k is a super fucking deal.

So all of your sound is coming down from above? Even your center channel and front L/R channels?

I'm sure it's nice having them flushed and not having to dick with wires or stands or any of that. It just seems like it defeats the purpose of having a nice receiver and playing good source material.

Yes, but the way the room is designed, there is one area where there is no wall to mount anything, large opening to the kitchen. I think the sound is really good, and very seperated. If it were a media room, it would be laid out differently, but it's the living room/great room (as they now call them), so this setup is practical, and still sounds good IMO.

Well it did help changing the xbox settings from 480p to 1080p. I even watched a bluray DVD and it did not seem like the best picture.

Well it did help changing the xbox settings from 480p to 1080p. I even watched a bluray DVD and it did not seem like the best picture.

That sucks. Maybe something is wroing with it?

My Mitsu 73" looks incredible with Bluray, and even 1080i satellite programming. I'm a big fan of DLP.

Is the player set to output in 1080p, I know the defualt is usually set low, like 480p.

How is the Blu Ray player connected, HDMI, Component video cables (Red, Green, Blue wires)?

They've done studies you know.... 60% of the time, it works every time
