New 2009 Alpine radios

Caught this last week and forgot to post up. Not sure what to think of it yet since "Coverflow" functionality seems to be limited. But I like where they are going with these iPod features. What I'd really like to see is my song ratings on the screen and the ability to rate the songs directly on the HU screen. I spend roughly about 45 minutes one way travelling in my vehicle to work and I'd like to have that ability so I can sort what songs I want to keep and what I want to delete.

Click on the link for the Gizmodo article.

That 404 is hideous. Why would someone choose that over the 505?

At this point, I'm just waiting for Alpine to step up and put a Bluray drive in their head units.

I see that it is imprint capable but you still must buy the module. They should include it in all their high end units. I will never go back.

It's not really geared to the 505 users IMO. More likely trying to grab some of the people iDA-Xxx radios that are geared towards the iPods. Honestly, I can't see Bluray being any sort of advantage on a small mobile screen other than having better compatibility with a users home DVD collection and having a bigger data capacity.

Why in the hell would you want to have Blueray on a 5 inch screen? That's ridiculous...

Like I said, compatibility with your DVD collection and bigger data capacity (i.e. mapping software).

My screen is 7", not 5". I have 42 bluray movies and counting. I stopped buying DVDs over a year ago. Why wouldn't I want the same format in my vehicle?

Don't look for Alpine to offer Bluray. With everything going portable, it does not sound like they want to invest.

Deck is cool for iPod users and it will play video as well.

Jose, I have wanted the ability to rate songs while they are playing since I have had an ipod cable.

Just to make sure I'm understanding your reasoning. Your wanting the ability to play Blueray to watch your movie collection. Not to be able to watch High Definition movies on a 7" screen right?

Haha... I'm glad I'm not the only one wanting that feature. Now that I'm able to watch iPod video and podcast (and have album art) that's the only feature I want that's missing.

Right. I don't watch VHS in my ride. I don't listen to 8 tracks. Why should I be limited to DVD when I've already moved on from that old format in my home?

It's not about having 1080p quality on a tiny screen. That's silly. Although, HDMI aux inputs and outputs would be cool as shit to go with my future plans.

Bluray drives play DVDs and CDs. I can watch or listen to any of the current formats in my home. Why not on the road? I'm not going to buy DVDs ever again if I can help it. It's just a shame I can't play them in my truck. I already own several concert blurays that I would love to pop into my head unit and play through my system, but I don't even have the option.

I'm not really complaining abouty not having it right now. I understand that it's not something a lot of people even care about. I'm just hoping that one day in the not-so-distant future Alpine will step it up.

Makes sense and I figured that's what your reasoning was.
