Hook iPod to your car stereo?

I ordered this cable that fits into my stereo that allows me to hookup an iPod and actually control it and read out through my car stereo. Cooler than the aux port because I dont have to touch the ipod itself.

Im curious if anyone has done something like this before? I have the cable, but wondering a nice professional way of installing it rather than just having some tangling wire in my console.

Depends on the car, but I'd probably hide the hook up in the glove box or console.

i installed that same piece in my gf's car. The cable is long enough to give you options on where you want your ipod installed. I ran hers back through the center console and then through the bottom of the armrest storage box. The glove box is always an option as well.

You have a S197 mustang, don't you? Do you still have the stock head unit for it? If so, how much/what brand was the adaptor?

No I'm not using the stock head unit. That thing is sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I've got an Alpine CDA-9857, which is out of production now.

However Alpine now has several models that are even better than mine. IMO, their iPod integration is better than anyone else. It just depends on how much you want to spend.

LOL, I don;t wanna spend shit! I am not a big car stereo guy... I just want my Ipod to play, and find the cheapest way to get the head unit to do it.

The "cheapest" way is to buy an FM modulator.

fm modulator, hard wired sounds better than the wireless ones. I put one in my dad F150 before he got a screen, one in my lil sisters sierra, my ex's focus, shit i put them in everything, lol. But yea it sounded pretty damn good, was out about 25-30buxs.

I put my ipod in the opening between the radio and my lil storage area, the space left over from the hunk of the factory system.

Shitty pic but you get the idea what I am talking about. I never leave my ipod in the car, I would be way too pissed if it came up missing. Alpine's connection is awesome

UGH!!! Anytime someone posts a picture of their car, I always find myself looking(and finding) dirt , swirls or anything else wrong with their car.

So how would I go about getting an MP3 player to work with my car? It's an 04 C5 Corvette. It has the bose with the 12 disc setup in the back. Is there a way I could just attach an MP3 player (NOT IPOD) to that somehow?

Thanks.

When I had my iPhone I had the iPod cord running loose under the dash and had my iPhone mounted with a Pro Clips holder mounted to a Pro Fit mount on my dash so it was accessible if I got a call.

Not a picture of the iPhone but it's the same mount I had when I had a Dell Axim PDA.

my car came with the same set up its nice. Its tucked away in my glove box. it should be that hard to install looks like just a simple wire hook up. and take the glove box out and tuck the excess in behind that.

No doubt. I still have the same 300 songs from the first time I plugged it up and someone else downloaded some songs I picked out. You know I can't figure out how to do that shit! lol

The only time I listen to the Ipod is when I feel like being surprised with random songs in shuffle mode.

I prefer an input aux adapter... plugs into the back of the radio and you still use your ipod to control it. The few adapters I have messed with (Pioneer and some other one) sucked. They were terribly slow and I jsut didnt like the radio controls.

Alpine's Ipod interface is outstanding. With my 505 it's all touch screen and it's better than using the Ipod itself. I even have album art!

The current generation interfaces are about 210089e9849848989x better than the first gen pioneer stuff. I know, i have one that I don't use. lol
