External HD or DVD burner?

I am wanting to know what you guys would personally pick to store dvd's. If I get the ext. hard drive, I can run it through the laptop to the t.v. Or if I get the dvd burner I won't have to worry about it "crashing" and losing all of the data.

I use a Seagate 250 GB external USB drive as my backup. They are very reliable as long as they are in a well ventilated area.

All data that I store on my laptop I mirror on the Seagate. If one crashes it's not the end of the world. I use to back up on dual layer DVDs, but a HD is more practical.

X2 and might I suggest this, get an external enclosure NOT just an external HDD. With an enclosure, you have the option to get larger drives in the future as your need for space requires, thus enabling you to put the old smaller drive in the puter for extra space or for use in another puter.
