Am going to one of our VP's homes to assist an AV installer who is having an issue getting AppleTV installed. Out client is running Uverse setup with a dozen plasmas and two Uverse RG units.
Both the AppleTv box and the Itunes PC are connected on the network though you cant ping the ATV box from the PC.
Am told the AV guy even put them on their own switch bypassing the RG and still the ATV box doesnt see the PC. Have disabled all firewall SW. Apple says the ATV uses UDP port 5353 to discover Itunes PC's on the network. Not sure if that port is closed on the RG or not
Has anyone set one of these up before and run into something like this?
Actually the ATV uses about 8 different ports and they are all open. The problem was that they had plugged the ATV into the 2nd RG - the one that was for STB's only. In a U-Verse setup they are two separate networks with two separate DHCP servers, etc. there is no bridiging between those. The only reason for the second RG is to support additional TV's past the 8 TV limit for one RG.
Once we put it on the 1st RG everything worked for the most part. However, the clients iTunes still never sensed the ATV box and we ended up reimaging it. Lots of folks reporting this issue after the iTunes v8 upgrade.
