I have the Captiveworks CW-700s. It has the USB port on the front which makes software updates a snap with my 512mb thumb drive. My 700s goes for about $110.
My box has been down for over 12 hours once. Most of the time, it takes about 4 hours or so for the updates to come out. Usually, by the time I notice that it's down, the update is already available.
I have been getting hit about once a week usually on Wed or Thu at about 4pm. I have gone over three weeks without getting zapped in the past.
Go to websites like freedomfta.com or totalfta.com and do some research on which dish you need and which box suits you best before you buy. Think about if you are going to need HD capability because this will cost more and change the type of box you will need. If you don't like learning new shit and doing research, FTA can get old real fast. Some of the sites will even tell you when the ECM (zap) is coming.
