Nope. This is 11.2 channels of sound in one room on one zone! 4 speakers are "presence speakers".

I'm sure Yamaha didn't make this for the average home owner. This is made for someone that has a large dedicated HT room, and can fully take advantage of 11.2 channels.

Have you seen some of the high dollar HT rooms out there? People have WAAAAAAY too much money! Makes me sick

yea, a friend of mine (older guy) i worked with im still good friends with is a hifi nut.

room 1, converted garage into a very nice theater room. krell processor and amp (one 5.1 and one 2.1) powering a set of aerial acoustics, a Vidikron DILA projector with some $20,000 price tag.

room 2.... my favorite his 2.1 (rather 2.2) stereo room is a pair of Von Schweikert speakers and a pair of 15" subs, i think he moved the SunFire amp and processor to this room. aint no video product in this room.

i need to get some friends with mid-priced equipment so i can listen to more brands to plan future purchases. like higher end a/v receivers (1500-2000$) or even low priced seperates (processor and amp for under 3k). im happy with my speakers but id like to hear a few more options.

yea i saw it. looks nice but i dont really need it because it offer me too much more than what i already have. the only thing i want from my receiver that i dont have now is HDMI.

thats exactly why next time i need a receiver, i want seperates. that way i can buy a pimp 5.1 amp and not worry about upgrading that. then i only need a decent processor because thats the only part that gets outdated all the damn time with new inputs and new formats.

Almost half off of the retail price. Can't go much lower than that for a Processor in perfect condition.

Yeah, I know how DFWStangs is, and it's listed elseware also

My ears aren't really sophisticated enough to need anything more than a nice 5.1 system.

It's not really about pure sound quality, which is where a picky ear would make a difference. It's about where the sound is physically coming from in the room. I can definitely tell a difference between 5.1 and 7.1, even when just blending the 5.1 signal into the two additional (rear) speakers. The sound is much more enveloping.

My question to you is this: In your opinion, does having the experience of the 7.1 justify the cost associated with upgrading a really nice 5.1 system that is set up right?

Appropriate in a small theater or large media room, but superfluous and ridiculous for the avg. household HT.

I'll stick with my 5.1 HT.

I don't have a lot of room for my gear which is why I still have the same 5.1 receiver that I bought new in 2003. When I get out of the current house and into something bigger, I might have to audition some 7.1 stuff to see if I have to have it.

I'd rather have 7.1, especially when some Bluray moves are now in 7.1, and there will undoubtedly be more to follow.
