Dish problems anyone?

Ok for the last few weeks, my Direct TV service has sucked. Every few minutes (and sometimes every few seconds) the screen goes blank and I get the "searching for signal" message.

Talked to my dad in Canton and he says their Dish Network has been doing the same thing.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

usually this is caused by trees, rose bush, or plants blocking the dish path and the wind making branches blow in front of it.

I have DISH Network and it doesn't lose signal unless there is inclement weather.

I suggest you call support and have them send out a tech to check your equipment. You may need a realignment due to poor signal strength. If you have poor signal strength you will lose your picture if a simple cloud moves in front of the line of sight. One of the most common problems is the installer not spending enough time using the SAT meter to get optimum signal or the dish not being mounting in a stable location.

From some of the wind we have had lately it may just need to be re-pointed. Watch your signal strength from your setup menu. If it stays really low you either have an obstruction or it is not pointed square at the right spot.

My Dish Network blows the pair. Eve if there is no wind, its a fully sunny day, it will just go to that stupid searching for signal bs.

Also every day a 4 and 5, the receiver will just shut off. rant

NO NO NO, it should be DFWLS1's, CUMMINS, C6 VETTES.net

If you have no obstructions in your line of site it should not be doing that. Call DISH and tell them to send out a tech for a realignment and equipment check.

I have no obstructions and the only time I lose signal is in severe weather. It works perfect even with high winds and even in a light rain. With the sunny and hot days we've had lately you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever.

You are simply getting a bad signal from either a poor alignment or unstable mounting location or a bad receiver. If your cabling is RG58/59 instead of RG6, that will cause problems as well.

If you've experienced heavy hail then you may have a damaged feedhorn.

For me DISH has been 10x more reliable than any cable company I've had. i.e. Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon suck FIOS. Not to mention all the cool features and the insane 350 hour capacity on the DISH DVR receiver.

it could be Sunspots it is very common with dish signals and happens during the summer months. I do not remember the exact months this happens but it occurs for around 2-3 months off and on.

I really don't want to pay some fatass to get on my roof and look at this, charge me a couple hundred dollars, then it not work again. I really need to find out what is wrong myself. IDK....I pay the installation, and the monthly, now are they going to charge me for something that is not my fault?

I agree fully with you. They provide the product, they need to back it up with their service.

I had Dish installed by their contractors and did a horrible job. I had no service due to the cable they put between my sliding door being cut open. Called and they tried to say they'd come out and fix it. Then they mentioned charging me... I was fucking livid and they gave me a "complimentary" tech visit.

Anyhow, did you turn off your box completely and reset it? If it doesn't find a signal from there call up there.

I also remember someone on this site working for Dish. Let me dig around...

I reset my reciever, re-aimed the dish, cut away any pecan tree limbs that MIGHT have gotten in the way. Between all three, mine is better than it was but still not perfect.

Sun spots. Is there a complaint number? I'll give em a piece of my mind!

Speak of the devil.

Right now I'm sitting here eating lunch at home watching ESPN HD. As I type this it is thundering, raining, and the wind is blowing hard. My DISH reception is perfect with zero macroblocking (pixelation) or signal loss.

That is how DISH works when it is installed by a competent tech. If it works anything outside of these parameters then I would phone with a manager at DISH.

The awesomeness that is DISH Network.

Just took this quick video for shits and grins.

It's pouring buckets outside with the occasional big burst of wind.
