under $1000 means 720p (which didnt deter me since its going to be for hd sports/tv/movies and i dont own a bluray player yet).

i picked the mitsubishi hc1500 that i got for a tad under 800. i got it cause the specs fit my room the best and it was a dlp darkchip II projector.

other possibles for me were optoma hd70. there was a sony and epson model but i didnt look into them enough.

the panasonic ptax200u was one of the best rated 720p projectors but i didnt want to spend 1200 for it nor did i want lcd.

GotStripes recommended that same Mitsubishi HC1500 to me when we were talking about bang for the buck.

Agreed the HC1500 is a very good projector, most people are very suprised with the image quality @ 720P for a projector that only cost $800....

Unless you are hard core for a blu-ray collection it's a great choice. You can get your media room started for fairly inexpensive with great results. Then opt for 1080P in a couple years when they are selling for the $1500 range.

only have one, sold the other. bulb is burned out and costs 400 dollars. newer technology available and a better picture so looking for something new rather than spending money on a new bulb.
