which would be a better choice?

yes i am cheap, i do not have super high standards when it comes to sound. i already have one of these, http://www.millionbuy.com/pakpw112l.html . i was going to build a down firing box to put it the back of an Xcab frontier. but i i thought trying my hand in fiberglass work and put a pair of 8's (http://www.millionbuy.com/kik07c84.html ) on each side where the little jumper seats are. the 8's would allow me to use a bit more of the Xcab, and if i can do it nicely, be tooked out of sight completely.

or would i be better of just sticking with the 12" and sacrifice 2 cubes of space?

i will take a picture of the jumper seats in the morning.

Quality of those specific sub choices aside, a single 12" is more cone surface area than two 8s, and should also play lower frequencies.

I would definitely do the 12.
