Angry My fucking tv wont turn on...

my kids were playing guitar hero on it, and we got up to leave so i shut it off, and now we are back and it wont turn on... by hitting the power button on my remote, a red light that says timer comes on, but no sound or picture... neither my tv remote or the cable remote will turn it on... its a Samsung model number HCN653W...

Did you try turning the surge strip on and off? I've noticed that seems to remedy the problem when my TV or Satellite won't come on.

It's a rental!

Try turning it on by the button on the set. My button on the actuall tv gets semi stuck sometimes and does the same thing.

What you might call solitude is something i look forward to.

Its like a strip that has a cord that plugs into the electrical outlet and has a bunch 6 or so plugs on it. Its extra insurance so that electrical shock doesn't ruin your electronics.

I use one on all of my computers and televisions.

It's a rental!

Unplug it for a bit, then try it again. That may reset it.

I'm guessing you covered all the easy stuff (maybe even up to checking the fuse).

If so, and I was a betting man, I would say it is the convergence board, or a short in the power supply.

I blame guitar hero...

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood."

Have you been to samsungs website? They have a trouble shooting page that fixed mine when it did the same. It's been so long I can't remember what it was.
Good luck.

Ok, I didn't read the model #- your TV is a CRT rear projection, meaning there are 3 CRT's (red,Green, blue). Your picture/brightness is generated by the 3 crt's as opposed to a DLP where the image is generated by the DLP chip and the brightness by the replaceable lamp.

1st thing i would try is pulling the power cord and letting it sit for 20- 30 minutes. This is basically the only reset for any of the newer sets. I f it doesn't come on after that call a servicer and check pricing.

I'd check it out for you but I'm 200+ miles away from there, and mileage charges would be through the roof.

1800Samsung can locate their authorized servicer for you.

Samsung DLP?

Probabbly the lamp. If its under warranty they will put a new one in. Some of the Samsung DLP's had a lamp issue and would go out fairly soon. Ours would throw up the red led on the front of the TV and the picture would just go off. Wait a few minutes and it would come back on, sometimes it would happen consistantly, others it would be totally random. They put in a new bulb and I kept the old one to have a back up in a pinch.

same exact thing happened to my sammy that I bought about 2 years ago. Service guy came out and reloaded a "program" into my TV's computer. He said once it freezes up you can rarely get it to come back on without a hard reset and you can not do that unless you have the special diagnostic tool thing. It was under warranty and was free and I have not had a problem since. I do not know how much of that is made up BS or not but all he did was turn the tv around and plug what looked like a hand held car diagnostic tool into it and was outta there in 5 minutes.

Best something in Texas.... just don't know what it is yet....

Sometimes fluctuations in voltage can cause problems with the microprocessor in the set and the hard reset will correct that. If it becomes frequent, then you may have a problem but every once in a while could just be a glitch.

I would let it go until it completely goes out .

It probably just had new firmware on it to stop it from freezing. - The only thing really needed for most of those is a USB flash drive to plug into the service port, but there are some handheld diag tools that will do the same thing but they cost a lot more and just make the tech feel more high tech. The handhelds are generally for the TV techs that aren't very familiar or comfortable with computers and downloading to flash drives.

you can try unplugging it and holding the power button for 30 sec or so... sometiems capacitors load up on electorincs and wont allow it to start.
