car stereo guys

I've been out of the scene for a while and need a little advice.

I have an older Alpine head unit, CDA-7878 and just the other day I changed sources from radio to CD player and got a 'HI TEMP' error and it would not eject the CD that was in it. It was not hot, and in fact it was freezing outside and had only been on for a total of 30 seconds or so. So, I reset it with a pin on the faceplate, it let go of the CD but it still gives me the 'HI TEMP' error.

I assume it's toast, which sucks because it's been a good deck to this point. Is it repairable, or worth repairing? Lastly, what are some decent choices for a replacement?

Things I require:
3 pre-amp outputs, at least 4v
iPod controls
an attractive display
not a million dollars, under $300 retail would be nice

I'd like to have a motorized face but that's not THAT important.

I've looked a little on Crutchfields website and like The Eclipse 3100 and kinda like the Pioneer stuff, and of course I like the Alpine stuff as well. So far the Eclipse looks like a winner, but as I said, I've been out of the 12v loop so long that I don't really know what's considered crap these days.

Thanks

I needed a new cd player that was fairly inexpensive and picked up a JVC KD-PDR50 for $120 bucks online. Has iPod ready hookup with no extra needed cable. Probably less than your looking for but

I've had two different Eclipse decks, and never had a problem with either. I really like their stuff.

<--- Not a big fan of Alpine. They're good, I just don't like the interface.
