Got a question about hooking up surround sound

On my Kenwood, There is a video 1, vid 2, dvd 6.1 channel, ect, ect. Which do you hook your dvd player up to? I have always used vid 1. Should it be hooked up to DVD 6 channel?

Vid 1 and vid 2 are pretty much just generic inputs. The DVD 6.1 input would be a dedicated input that Kenwood designed for your DVD. I would stick with that as the input.

Can you choose different formats while connected to DVD 6.1? Like DTS, or Dolby Digital or something like that?

Thank you for your input. I have noticed a quality reduction between regular tv and DVD player. The TV being better than the DVD.

Good lord I am getting old. Did not realize it, but i have been listening to my surround sound on analoge. I have never been satisfied with the quality of sound with my surround system. Just switched it to digital and it sounds fucking great. I have only had this reciever for about 4 fucking years.
