It's a digital signal, what difference does a more expensive wire make? My $19 China brand one works as well as the $99 Monster one in the plug next to it. As long as it meets the hdmi 1.3 standards they should all offer the same performance. Now if you are going to use one longer than 16 feet then you'll need more expensive ones just because of the resistance in the wires.

I use the 6 ft. HDMI cable's that the Verizon FIOS tech handed me after he did my install. Everything looks fantastic.

Yep, Gizmodo had problems with a 25' monoprice cable but after replacing it, everything was fine. Just a faulty cable.

If the cable has too much resistance, it simply won't work to begin with. Its a digital signal. All the 1's and 0's get through or you get no picture.

Does the same go for the Fiber Optic audio cables? Will the cheepies work as well as the expensive stuff?

This is all im going to say on the subject.

At something called achievers in Cali for best buy. Monster had a demo to show the difference of their 800 series cables versus cheaper competitors...

The run was just about 8 feet long and it took 5 different cheaper ones before they got one that even worked!!!

... Monsters demo couldn't get any compeditors cables to work? gasp! That doesn't sound set up at all. Did they show you the difference in picture quality between the Monster Cable and the inexpensive one once they 'found' one that worked?

It took me one try to get a 50' HDMI cable to work in my house, and it was less than $70 shipped. How much are the 50' Monster HDMI cables going for these days?

We ended up getting the cheapest we could find on Amazon, which were only a few bucks each, and they work great. The HDMI and Optical, both.

I love this thread. Years ago when I was in my serious car audio installing days I made RCA cables using 22 guage speaker wire and soldered the ends on using radio shack RCA ends. I had several people who were "professional installers" tell me FIRST that the cables I made wouldnt work because they werent shielded for audio use, THEN I was told that if they did work, they would sound terrible and would pick up all kinds of static and noise from the car and that I would have to buy all these filters and shit. WORKED LIKE A CHARM...and after 10 years of being installed in my car...STILL DOES. Fuck all that gold plated oxygen free triple shielded bullshit. WIRE IS WIRE. Same rule applies for Fiber Optic cable.

In most cases you're fine with the cheaper stuff. I mean, it's fiber. It works or it doesn't. (Excluding the details of fiber that don't apply in this case)

On occasion I've bought something a bit more expensive since it looked like it could take more abuse from my carelessness.

Take care,

Ditto, I subscribe to the speaker wire is speaker wire, motto... but for low level analog, stick to something that is shielded! Expecially in high noise enviroments, it can make a big difference. For high level signals or digital, wire is wire (for the most part) and I've even used CAT5 to run a high level signal to a processor without any problems.

its built to block out electronic or magnetic noise. they may be removable. take a close look at them.

if you buy the inwall cables they are CL2 rated, they are meant for in wall use.

How much better can the stuff really be? Have you seen how deep the discounts are on ebay for monster cables highest end stuff compared to the retail price of it? Last night I picked up 2, 4' optical cables that retail for $100 each for $50 shipped for the pair. You cant hardly find any optical cable for $25.... much less monster cable brand. Sure I could of probably ordered cheap ones for $15 shipped for a pair but when you can get a discount like that it just feels good to know you have high end stuff for cheap.

Best something in Texas.... just don't know what it is yet....

4' optical cables for $100? P.T Barnum was right. What exactly does a $50 optical cable do that a $3 optical cable doesn't?

It may make you feel good, but it makes me feel good knowing there are people that will buy shit for $100 when they could spend $3 and not notice any difference at all. To be honest, that's not the part that makes me feel good though. The part of that equation that makes me feel good is that I know that a $3 optical cable will perform just as well as a $100 optical cable.

I got the pair for $50, they were $25 each shipped. Not bad if you ask me. If nothing else they have the very thick outer sleeve that helps to keep them from being bent to sharply and breaking the fiber optic. When I worked at CC way back in the day we would play around with some of the optic cables that came with some of the HTIAB systems and it does not take much before you hear a sharp crack and then its trash.

Best something in Texas.... just don't know what it is yet....

Cool man, but of course you could have bought 8 of the $6 cables if one were to 'snap' from all of the force you'll be exerting on the wires attached to the back of your equipment. To each his own I guess. I'll be sticking with the cheapest digital cables I can possibly find though.

the ferrite beads are always removable... Just us a razor blade and cut the casing... use a pair of vice grips and smash the ferrite...doesnt take a lot of pressure, they just shatter. The hardest part is cutting the casing off. Just make sure you dont cut the cable at all.

Ok that's what I figured... carry on.

With amps such as, you are probably good to go with your "custom" RCAs.

Just because you personally can't tell a difference with pimp amps, doesn't mean there isn't a difference with a good one.
