So I'm an HDTV f#cking moron...

I know very little about this crap. I have Time Warner Cable with a box on my existing 10 year old 35" CRTV. The box has HD channels that will play on my clunky old TV just fine.

If I go out and buy something, let's say, like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889248016

What do I need to do to get it to work. Will I need the box?

Just FYI, this is not a TV debate. I don't care about the noise issue that some people report from the Mitsubishi stuff or the fact that regular TV doesn't look as good on giant screens. This TV is going in a big room and it can't be mounted on a wall.

Well in that case, you should look at Samsungs.

How much?

I just bought that exact TV from Best Buy about two weeks ago. I actually had two 65s first and they both had a noise issue (buzzed loud as shit), so when I went back the third time I decided to get the 73". No buzzing so far. It looks awesome, too. You really will want HD programming though. It's doubtful that your box/service now really includes the good shit. Both of the Dish providers are going to offer a lot more HD programming. I also just hooked up a PS3 and Bluray movies look incredible. I'd recommend it.

Come by the crib and check it out and we'll go heckle drunk fogies at the Yacht Club across the street afterwards.

Oh thanks, that looks like what I needed to know. They are saying I just get a new HD box for free. Now i got to call those fuckers and see if they are going to try to rape me. I know what "free" means when they say it.

$2499 free delivery and no tax. I was thinking about a 65" too. Fry's has the very basic 65" 1080p Mitsu for $1449.

Oh the yacht club...the memories. And the mammaries.

A buddy just got Dish, and that's his only option because he's in brand new apartments. He has a whopping 7 HD channels. I'd say DirecTV has progressed much further than Dish. Are you kidding me? He could get that many fucking HD channels with a fucking antenna. lmgdao What a joke....

The 73 we're talking about is the same "basic" TV as the 65 you mentioned, just larger.

Fry's had the 73" for $2299. Best Buy matched it plus 10% of the difference (their original price was $2999). The TV ended up being $2299 before tax, which will still bring it in under what newegg is offering. The only difference would be the delivery. If you have a truck, it's a piece of cake though. The TV weighs less than 100 pounds.

LOL. Your buddy is getting screwed. Come on over and I'll show you all of the HD channels. 7? Hell, I had more than 7 back in 2003. They have like 70 now or something crazy.

Work that math again? they matched plus 10% but it came out at the same price before tax?

Oops, too many 2s and 9s. My bad.

It ended up being $2229 before tax. HEB is 8.25%, which made it $2412.89 out the door.

Hey, if you find it cheaper in an actual store, let me know. I have a 60 day price match guarantee.

Best Buy will do 10% of the difference. Just keep an eye out, i'm not sure if Fry's will drop it that low again before the year is out. I'd rather get the 65734 anyways and they have it for $1499/$1599 all the time. 4 HDMI's, better features, perfect tint, etc.

Al, something to think about is the kiddo factor. A TV with a texture on the screen like most DLPs that I've seen simply won't work with kids. They put their grubby paws all over them no matter what you do to prevent it. And cleaning a textured screen is damn near impossible - ask me how I know....

You may not have any noise. On the first two I got it was loud enough to hear from about 40 feet away in the kitchen. Loud enough that "silent" parts of TV or movies were not silent like they were supposed to be. Loud enough that I had to have the volume on my receiver up several notches louder than I normally would just to overcome the noise. Screw that.

You know that nose a refrigerator sometimes makes? A constant buzzing noise that you can hear from a good distance? Or the sound that an outside A/C unit makes if you are unlucky enough to be on the other side of the wall from it? It was very similar to that.

It may be luck of the draw. My 73" does not make any audible noise at all. For a large investment like that, I personally don't think any unwanted noise is acceptable.

Will I have a problem exchanging it at best buy if it has that noise? The only reason I really bought it was cuz of the size & price. They had it on sale on black friday for 1499.00 & I lied & said that conns had it for 1299.00 I can't afford to spend anymore than what I already did.

You should not have any issues exchanging it. The only bs they tried to pull on me was telling me that my 30 days did not start over on the new TV. That makes no sense, since you could simply return it for your money back and then turn around and buy another one. Although in your case, you may not want to do it that way because they may not honor your shady deal again. Either way, you will be able to swap it out. I swapped mine and the second one was no better, swapped it and paid the difference for the bigger one. Their policy is stated clearly on their receipts.

The stores are pretty loud so you likely wouldn't hear it. You need to get it in an otherwise quiet location. And it may not do it right away. Just try it out. Heck, it may not be as loud for you or even bother you if it is. They don't all do it.

all rear projection tvs have a similar screen, some tvs have clear shiny screen protector right above it that keep you from noticing it tho. a lot of the newer tvs started getting rid of the screen protectors since it adds glare.

Quote:
The Screen

The fourth element of a rear-projection television is the actual screen upon which the image is seen by viewer. The type of screen used in projection televisions is much different than those used for front video projection or film. A rear-projection television screen is made up of two primary elements. First, there is the inner Fresnel surface, which further magnifies and disperses the brightness of the image across the screen. Second, there is an outer Lenticular surface, which helps in the final shape integrity of the image, as well as contributing to contrast and the wideness of the televisions viewing angle. If you were to touch a rear-projection television screen (which you should never do under normal circumstances) you would notice that its surface is not smooth, as is a standard film or video projection screen. This is because you are actually touching the Lenticular surface etched into the screen itself.

You need to get an HD tuner with HDMI outputs and an HDMI cable. You run the cable from the box to your TV, just one, not 4 different ones. Some cable providers have tuners with DVI outputs, which suck since you'd need an adapter and still hook up the sound seperately.

That set doesn't advertise being able to use a cable card so you'll need their tuner. It has a built in HD tuner for using an antenna but obviously you won't get any premium channels with it.

As for the guy that said his buddy only gets 7 HD channels on Dish, your friend is a tard. I get over 70, 50 of which aren't PPV.

That looks a lot like my 57 inch mitsu dlp. The buzzing it makes is my only complaint, and it is really not noticeable most of the time. For some reason I get a few HD channels that show up on my basic roadrunner service. I spend a lot of time watching discovery HD sitting on the edge of the couch; the picture is breathtaking.

Long story short I ended up getting the one from Newegg, should be here Thursday. I figured for $88 I'd let them move it.

I looked at Samsungs and a few others and just didn't see anything that I liked.

When I went to buy the 65" for $1449 at Fry's on black Friday they were out. I gave the salesman my name and shit. He called the other day and said they got another shipment and they were just $1599 now but "that's still a good deal". What a dumbass.

Is this going in your house? I have had a 65" forever, and going up to the 73" was a pretty big difference. In fact, it's just damn ridiculous, to be honest.

I got a big formal living area at the front with tall ceilings and plenty of room, I'm going to put it in front of a window that has hedges in front of it. The window is pretty much useless now. I wanted something really big that I can watch from 20+ feet away at the dining room table.

I got the TV in yesterday, decided to put it against a wall instead of in front of the window, I think it is a great arrangement. It really doesn't seem all that big in this room. I'll post some pics soon.

I don't have an HD cable box yet, I have to run a cable down one of my walls, don't have any outlets in the room. I put an old DVD player on it (480i) and even with that thing the picture isn't too bad at all. I bet it is going to look awesome with the HD hooked up.

I DO have a little buzzing when the TV is on but its not really anything you'd notice unless i pointed it out.

I have my TV on a UPS. some of the rear projections have a habit of not powering up the bulb cooling fan after a Quick brown/black out so it overheats as pops.

as a matter of fact.. all of my componants are on a Surge protector/UPS.

as a matter of fact.. all of my componants are on a Surge protector/UPS.
I need an UPS. I've had my DLP tv since Feb and the electricity has gone off 3 or 4 times while the tv was on. Damn TU!

Hence the reason I still have a $900 52" Magnavox HD set in my living room. Have 2 2 - 3" Breaks in the screen too. Can't see them at all unless you look at it sideways. Maybe I'll get a new one in about 5 years. lol Oh and it has badass picture in HD.

I almost bought a mistu 733 series just before I saw these threads about them. Glad i read them. I ended up getting a 57734 instead and love it. Plus I convinced the salesman to price match a competitors ad on a 57733 since it didn't list the model # and he was not too bright! Picture is awesome on fios and no buzzing!!!

That may be textured on the inside, but from my experience you don't feel the texture on any of the projo's.

I could see it if you were talking about CRT projo.

LMAO! Shit, we can hook up the PS3 for the trip. I got 3 LCD TVs in there for a combined 20.5 inches! Woohoo!

Al, what stand did you go with and how much was it? Is it exactly as wide as the TV? I bought the biggest one they had at Best Buy when I got the 65, and it was the exact same width. When I got the 73, I just kept the same stand and the TV hangs off about 2 inches on each side. The base of the TV still fits fine, and it looks alright, but yours looks like it fits perfect.
