In wall speakers...

For those of you that have in wall rear speakers, can you give me your experiences with them? Does you have to sacrifice sound quality to have them?

I'm considering getting a pair for my rear channels, and I want something thats going to sound good. These will be used 100% of the time for movies.

Thanks,
Nick

Saw some Yamaha ones at RadioShack the other day... freaking awesome speakers! They were $129 for the pair and I bet you can find them cheaper online. They had them installed in the store in their shitty ceiling tiles running them off of a regular Sony receiver with some really thin crappy speaker cable... I couldn't believe how good they sounded! I've also heard the Polk Audio ones and they sound pretty good too but are more expensive than the yamahas and didn't sound as good. The Yamahas had this big circuit board on the side of them and they are three way speakers. Check them out...

For the price, you can't beat these. I installed these at a friends house and they sounded pretty good. Get some speaker cable from www.monoprice.com and you're golden.

'these' what?

You will most always sacrifice sound quality by going to a in-wall/in-ceiling unless the speaker you are buying is enclosed. That being said, sound quality from the rear speakers will be less noticeable only because they don't continuously work as hard as the fronts. I will be doing in-wall/ceiling when I get around to doing mine, and will have no problem with the sound quality they will put out.

Yeah, the sound quality lost from loosing the cabinet will be less noticable in the rear channels. I'm keeping my tower monitors up from, and my 1400watt sub, so I think I'll be ok

Absolutely. If those are available, snatch them up. Of course if you are going in a wall, and not the ceiling they would look silly. Wish I wasn't broke right now, those are a steal. This place has them for $90.88 shipped though and the 8" are $121.88 shipped, and they claim to be Polk authorized.

These are what I want to go with. I hat HTD's level 3 package now, and I'd like to keep all of the speakers the same brand.

They will be in-wall, and not in-ceiling.
