Box Building Day!!!!!!

Alot of people could build a box, BUT usually go to us professionals in the field. The biggest PROBLEM is the general person out there simply does not have the proffesional tools or knowledge to build a box. You could grab the ole skill saw, hammer, some nails, tape measure, etc. and hope like hell to get close, and take all day. Some of the shops out there got a table saw, and some tools in a corner to build some boxes, and they will get a heck of a lot closer. I am much lazier, Ive invested the $40,000 or so in woodworking tools, because time is money. The faster i can do it (and do it correctly), the better off my time is to make a living. So you "Do It Yourselfers", this may be the day for you!!! Ive been asked several times to have a general box building type day. This is your chance to build your own box, and use the best tools in the industry to make life easier. And to hang out with some of your buddies.

I need to know who all would be interested if i do this.

Here is what I am willing to do.

1) Give use of the shop area and woodroom to all who is interested.
2) I will not build your box, but will give you guidance.
3) Any materials used, you will need to pay me for.
4) be happy to talk with anyone on a project or future project they are considering
5) Want to install your own radio, speakers, etc. I will guide you through it, sell you parts you will need (just above cost) and will let you use my shop tools.

I ask anyone participating to clean up after themselves, Make sure you return any tools you are using, and to respect the shop, myself, and others that may be here.
Anyone working on their projects at the shop will be asked to sign a waiver (especially wood room). That they take ALL risks and we ARE NOT LIABLE for ANYTHING.

I am willing to do this because i have met some pretty good people here, and its a chance for alot of the dfw crowd to meet one another, as well as myself meeting some others. I would prefer to do a saturday, maybe 10am-4pm at latest. If we decide on a day, the retail front will be closed, and the bays will be open for dfw stangs people only. If all goes smooth, then maybe i can put on another every so often.

PLEASE respond to this post all that are interested so i can guage putting this on. I also welcome any others in the industry to come on out, and help some of the guys on this site who like or prefer to do their own installs. This will be a day for us to group together and have a little fun, SO if you come out, no BASHING on anyones installs or you will be asked to LEAVE. We all have to start learning somehow.

Had a question on table saw. The 2 red circles you see are table mounted routers, so you can actually have 3 people working, 1 cutting and 2 routing, lol.. That might be a little unsafe though. Have plenty of jigs ive made over the years, etc. So I pretty much will have anything someone will need. If not, and i need it, ill make one, lol....

lol, yeah thats the truth. Its hard but ive stood on the table and cut a piece of wood with my left leg, while using my left hand to route a circle, and my right hand to rout a rabbit cut on a box front. Its a site.. OK OK, im just kidding guys. Really EW is right, one person at a time. Im sure EW has seen what a piece of wood can do to someone it you lose a grip while routing or cutting. And yes we have anti-kickbacks installed on saw, and they will not be removed. EW your welcome to stop by and throw some advice out there to these guys.

I'll be at work but I hope that lots of people take you up on your offer. It is very generous and a good opportunity to build a quality enclosure with all the proper tools, materials, and guidance.

maybe 2 saturdays from today like Nov. 3rd. Need to see how many really willing and wanting to show up. If im gonna close the store for the day, i sure want people to show up. And it doesnt have to be only boxes, if youve got a dash piece, amp, or something you want to learn how to custom flush or something, its all good. About anything car audio related we can all help or discuss.

thats what the day is all about, discuss some ideas, build some things, etc. Even if you dont make you something, it would be a good time to get some ideas from people.

haha

its just something about doing things yourself though... it may take a ton longer or may even might not end up saving you that much money but it more rewarding for me. inspecially any car audio things that are done on my car... then again some people are just lazy

plus when you learn how to do something yourself, you can begin to help people. and helping people is good

I've built my own boxes before and customer's boxes, just don't have access to the table/saw/air gun and everything I used to work with. Boxes were cheap to make a fast $100 bucks profit back 2-3 years ago when I did it. Sheet of MDF and about 2 hours time for $120 bucks to the customer.

Home depot and lowes can cut make straight cuts on anything you buy from them. do it all the time man. cuts are normally +/- 1/8 inch though but thats what caulking is for isnt it?

wood is fricken expensive man... $30 i think for a large piece of 3/4 MDF

That was the local home depot in 2004. I think it might have been $22 a sheet at most for what I ever paid.

Sorry guys, been in Houston for a few days. Started a new thread for signups, and a date is set. Post on that thread if you want added to list. Remember its all about getting together and doing whatever, so if you want to come hang out and ask questions thats all good as well. May not can cover it all, but if you are curious on basic fiberglass, vinyl wraps, suede, etc. Come on out.
