Jl 10w7

I'm leaning toward a 10w7 in my Mega cab . Any experience with them ? I think it would sound good with my 500/1 in a sealed box . Do ya'll think there worth the $$$ ?

It would sound great I bet. Whether it is worth it to you depends on your goals and you overall interest in car audio.

Well I know I want some good SQ . I have run JL's in the past and had no complaints . It wouldn't cost too much more than running 2 10W1's or 10W3's ,I think it would sound better ,ya think ?

IMO, I would go with a 10w6 with that amp. I have that amp and a 10w6 and it sounds good in a sealed box.

JL has a stealthbox for the mega cab with 2-10W6v2.
2-10W7's would be pretty nice!

1 10W7 will sound smoother than 2 10W6s, but the W6s will hit harder... they have a different sound, you'd have to hear them almost back to back, but the W7 hits lower and smoother for sure...

That being said, I own a W7, and 2 W6s and a W3... all 12s...

How about going with 2 8w7's?

I've heard you get a much cleaner sound. As long as you don't want people 500 yards away from you listen to your music.

the smaller the speaker, the less it will drop, but it will hit faster... it depends on what sound you like... I personally love 12s, I've never owned any sub but a JL 12, and I've owned about 10-12 different ones...

Very nice sounding subs, can be punished and keep on ticking, and are beefy as hell... just a lot of $$$

For the money wouldn't be my first choice, but if you go with any W7 you won't be disappointed That said I was going to use an 8W7 in my old truck but the mounting depth killed that idea...

I just hate spend $200 on a sub, and be disappointed . I know a W7 will sound good. I've been out of the game for a while , I don't know what other sub would compare. There is a place in Burleson called Hotstreet , there is a guy there I think his name is Todd Zeer who is suppose to be real good . I'm going to talk to him Saturday . He has alot of history with Treo, but I think they are now carring RE and Crossfire .

i am very very very happy with my RE... i think it is very comparable to a w6 and can be picked up for ~$200

IMO, RE is much better for the dollar

with that said, you honestly can not go wrong with a w7 end of storry. im not saying RE is the same or better as a w7 by any means just a value thing for me... lol, they are just really expensive and have a very large mounting depth (bad for us truck guys). a 500/1 will push it and is what most people get but i like them with a little bit more power... maybe 600-700 RMS so you have room for clipping?

trust me dude, if you had 2 w6's or even IMO 2 w3v3s in your truck you wouldnt be disapointed... assuming you just want to play for yourself and not for all the ppl within a 1 mile radius of your car...

That's not really considered overkill nowadays. 1000 watts 10 years ago was pretty insane. Now it's just stepping up to the plate.

I currently run two 500/1s on two Type R 15s. I'd really love to upgrade to 1000/1s for each sub. Anyone wanna buy some black 500/1s?

I have a few friends that work there . I have heard good things about him , so I am going at least hear what has to say . They don't carry the big name brand stuff, but I hear he know's how to make a killer box . So he might be able make a cheaper sub sound just as good ...

You system rocks... it felt like my skin was shakin off my body when you cranked it up.

A single 500/1 would be able to put a 10W7? If so I'd like to pick one up from you within a month... I can try to find another buyer for the other so it's all squared away

A 500/1 is enough for a W7. Approx 600W RMS even as low as 10.5VDC.

Thanks - i'm still coming to you guys for install even though my date keeps getting pushed back

I finally got the car though that the system is going in, lol...

2004 Jaguar Xtype with the stock alpine unit, i'm looking to ditch the stock 7" subs in the back and leave the opening empty. Hopefully I can retain the stock touchscreen by using a RCA adapter

LOL. Thanks. Glad you liked. As for selling the 500/1s, I was only about half serious. Yes, I would love to upgrade to 1000/1s, and if so I would of course sell my 500/1s. But I need to make sure and get the timing right so I am ready to pay the difference and get the bigger amps, that way I don't have to roll around with nothing. I also don't know what I would want for my amps. I have seen them go for $200-$250 on here, but I don't think I would let mine go that cheap. Then again, those amps are older and silver. If that doesn't matter to you, you might try scooping one up at those prices. I'll definitely let you know, though, if I go to sell anything from my current setup.

It'll be at least a month before I can purchase anything for the car. I just moved, have to buy furniture, etc

I hear ya. I think I am about to make a big TV purchase and then next month I'll be dumping a bunch of money into the Halloween party (October 27th, by the way - be there!) so I can't splurge on car audio for a minute. I know that breaks EW's heart!

I might have to take the Monday off after the 27th then...

Poor EW, I haven't bought anything yet from him, but I always bug him for info and prices. I will soon though! No worries

but in a vehicle with about half the area as most other cars with a common setup... much louder IMO...

Hell , I'm really confused now . 10w7, two 10w6's or three 10w3's ,to many choice's . I want to just use the right side of the cab my max dimension are 40"Lx9.5"Dx17"H . So I have some room to work with ,just want to get the most for my $$$ .

I don't think that's based in fact, though. If he could get my setup in his truck I bet it wouldn't sound as loud, especially if he is firing the subs forward. It has something to do with bass waves and how they grow as they travel, or some shit (I think).

The depth is going to kill you there. And you don't have a lot of room in the other dimensions to get more air space. One sub may be your best bet, or two sealed. What kind of vehicle did you say it was? Have you checked out the stealth box yet?

They are not actually for sale at this point in time. Maybe in the not-too-distant future. I probably wouldn't let them go for less than $275-$300. They have been used only about 6 months and I have the boxes, manuals, packaging, receipts, everything. They are black, which I know is not as common. You can get older silver ones on here for less, in case you are just looking for the power at the best price. Actually, one of mine has some very tiny blemishes on the top from when my box used to scoot around. It's barely noticeable, but I'd drop the price on that one some. Anyway, for now they aren't going anywhere.

thats what i ended up doing in my truck. its too expensive and too much a pain in the ass for a stealth box... keep in mind that you are lossing room for 1 passenger and also this is alot more tempting for theifs... the box slides around (unless you figure out a good way to mount it) and overall it doesnt look as nice.

i personally liked the freedom of on top of the seat so i could port or seal and wasnt tied down to a single sealed 10 under the seat.

In the Mega cab it's fits behind the seat , it just won't recline as much . So unless you fold the seat down , know one knows you have a system ,until you turn up the volume .

JL advises you to use a 1-1.5" mounting baffle. If that box is a cheesy prefab, the W7 will kill it.
