Valentine V1 problem and proximity sensor??

Someone on The Corral just posted this up about having problems with his V1 constantly going off because of the Proximity Sensor on his alarm. It was my understanding that when the alarm is not armed the Proximity Sensor is inactive. I'm correct right? Or is that why my V1 is constantly going off?

I remember that when I had one in the cobra it would consistantly flash red and green. (prox sen) Wick Im guessing that that means its still active. Maybe put it on a lil switch or guick ground disconnect.???

On a Clifford, the prox is always on. I had the same thing but my detector went off constantly (not just sometimes) until I added a relay to turn it off when ignition is on. Why would this only begin to be a problem now after you've had the alarm so long. Plug in the detector to a constant power(so the V1 stays on), arm the alarm, press the headlight and arm/disarm buttons at the same time. Your parking lights should blink 4 times which means that the prox is off. Does the V1 act differently?

Well I've had the problem for a long time but I'm not sure if it coinsides with the install of the alarm. I now I had the alarm installed about 3 months after I got the V1 but I can't remember if I had the problems before the alarm install or not.

Whatever the problem it's specific to just my car as the other vehicles I drive rarely exhibited the problem (it has happened but not enough to say it's an issue). I'm not sure what to do at this point, I still haven't called Valentine up and it looks like I won't this week unless they have 24/7 support.

Eric, is there a way to disable the proximity sensor while the car is running besides adding the relay? Like maybe disabling both zones like you would if it was armed? Have you heard of this problem before with other people?

No way to turn it off while car is running except switch or relay. We can add that no problem. After my alarm was installed, I called V1 to say that my unit was showing a constant Ka signal to the rear. They asked if I had added anything to the car and that is when I woke up and realized that the prox was probably the problem. After adding the relay to the prox, all is good. I'll call Ken and see if he thinks he put a relay in yours.

Eric, check out this thread on The Corral where a guy is having almost exactly the same problem I'm having.

Valentine 1 & High End Car Alarms Problems?

If I pulled the fuse out that will disable the whole alarm including the proximity sensor right? I'd like to do that for a couple of days and see if this problem with the V1 persists. What do you think? If that stops the problem I'll get with you on the relay when we do the install. Jezz I hope this is what the problem is

If you pull the fuses out of the alarm, your car will not start.

Dammit I forgot about that Doh! Guess I wanna try that relay thingy when we get to installing stuff on my car.

I'm working OT until at least Monday so I'm out of doing any work on my car until then. And I'm planning on hitting up the dyno next Saturday if I can get things schedules at SpeedWorks.
