Question New MP3 playing Kenwood head units??

Whats up with these new sirius ready head units?? What's the difference between the OTHER Kenwoods that can read mp3 format files?? Why are there sooo many versions this time around?

I sooo need to get a new head unit for my car and now I'm having a rough time choose one at the right price.

Anyone know what the deal is with these new Kenwoods?

I'm actually leaning towards Alpine now. Haven't kept up with what Kenwood is offering.

Sirius is a satellite based music service, much like the Music Channels on DirectTV or DishNetwork.

Your Kenwood models are as follows:

KDC-X series are the higher end "Excelon" products. They'll have cleaner audio, better amps etc. Much like Sony's Mobile ES series. The X959 also plays WMAs, so that's a plus. The choices are the X659 for a removable faceplate, whereas the 100.00 more X859 adds the D MASK+ Motorized faceplate.

If you're looking for a good price on the Kenwoods, check with Ron Short. I got my Z919 pretty darned cheap through him, and will be checking back with him to see if I can get one of the newer models.

Ahh... That's the other Satellite Based Radio similar to XM Radio. I haven't heard much about it and they haven't gotten off to as good as a start as XM.

Never had any skiping problems sold it to a friend and he has not had any problems either. I've seen them for 240.00 online pretty good deal if your looking for a decent mp3 player for a good price.

Because I bought the sum bitch 5 years ago for $50 and couldn't sell it so I'm throwing it in It's a good unit and it's in perfect condition. I bought a Sony PC-MD2 for ripping music off of my computer so it will be basically like an MP3 player.

I had one of the Aiwa CD/MP3 players. It's a pile of garbage and not even worth $100.00. It skips like a mofo because it has little to no track buffering and it won't play back a lot of MP3s if you encode them at a funky bitrate it doesn't like.

I kept mine about 6 weeks and sold it. I lost my ass on the deal because I bought it when they were $300.00 but I went to one of the Kenwood units and it was superb. I had a Kenwoon 919 and a Kenwood 828 and they were excellent units. Never skipped and played back every mp3 bitrate/encoding technique I threw at them.

I have this same unit in my Mustang. I love it. IT was fairly inexpensive and does everything I need it to do. Scrolls ID3 tags, detachable face, small built-in amp, etc. Very nice unit.

Yea, I have that same unit in my wife's car and it does work really good. They've gotten pretty reasonable too.

I have an Empeg in my Mustang. That's pretty much the ultimate for an MP3 player for the car. Even at high bit rate encoding, I can still get about 250 albums on the hard drive and since it runs linux, there are tons of customizations you can do to the thing.
