New H/U and subs

In my daily driver (a 2000 Honda Prelude), It currently has a Panasonic DPX-153U CD player that came with the car. There's nothing wrong with it per se it has 3 preamps. But, I'm wanting to get a CD deck with a built in high pass xover so i can run the factory speakers (off the amp inside the head unit) and run a sub as phase one then when money permits i can upgrade the speakers and get an external amp.

I used to have a 7894 Alpine (built in x-over and amp, great H/U IMO) and am thinking about buying another of the exact same model. But does alpine or any other company make a new H/U (or one easier to find used as the 7894 is not very popular) w/ comparable features? MP3 is optional i just need built in amp and high pass xover.

Also i have the Alpine MRD 500 Mono amp and am wondering what subs you think i should run. I've always liked JL but they are pretty pricey. EW would talk me into one of the DVC high end JLs i'm sure if i went down to the store, but i really cant spend tons of money. My brother has 2 10s in his car and i really like the sound. I also prefer a ported box over a sealed. Anyone running any 10s with a mono amp like that?

Thanks for the replies!

You could use one of JL's new ported enclosures for the W1v2. The 4 ohm load would mean lower power output from the 500 which would be fine since the W1v2 is not built to take 500W anyway. Or, the Alpine type R woofers are excellent and with a prefab enclosure, not super expensive. You can spend less on a Kenwood deck with 4V rcas, crossovers, mp3, etc or the 9855 has crossovers, 4v.

OH also that 9855 whats up with that "bar" on the bottom, i must admit i'm not lin love with the new line alpine has out.

As far as kenwood goes i'm not adverse to trying new things. That kenwood 4028 looks pretty nice, has the xover built in and is sub 200$

The slide-bar is the bar at the bottom. It sucks at first but after a while you can get used to it. I prefer the older-style Aplines with buttons.

Went with the kenwood 4028, must say this thing has a ton of features and does all that my old alpine did for half the price.

Thanks EW for the great deal!

Yes, except on the 9965 if it actually ships. 2006 Alpines will have some cool technology.

Yeah, I'm not really digging the glide touch. That's why when my '04 Alpine unit got jacked, I had to do some searching to find another '04.

That's great! I may have to ditch my whole set up and go with all new stuff if I can't figure out what's causing this stupid road noise when I'm listening to XM. Thought I got it fixed when I came to the shop last week, but it's really intermittent. Sometimes its there, somtimes its not. And its at no particular time. Sometimes it happens after 15 minutes of driving. Sometimes it's there as soon as I start my truck. Sometimes its there and then it disappears. Who knows wtf it is.

I was thinking it might be the deck as well. Sorry I wasn't here when you were here the other day.
