sub and box suggestions

thinking about installing a sub in my Lightning (1994 model). I've been looking at the JL 10w6v2. anyone have any first hand experience with this particular sub? I would love to run two but due to limited space in a GEN. 1, I think I'm better off with just one.

I like it for these features:

Peak Power Handling: 800 Watts
RMS Power Range : 400 Watts
Sealed Box Volume: 0.50 - 1.00 cu. ft.
Top Mount Depth 6.9"

also, I can't find a box anywhere that will allow me to keep the seat where I like it and need it. tried cramming a box that I got from a friend that was built for a chevy and I had to slide the seat forward to the point that it just wasn't comfortable. looks like I'm also going to be in the market for a custom box.....so if anyone can point me in the right direction it will be highly appreciated.

IIRC your L has a console instead of the jump seat right? I would ditch the console in favor of a new custom console/enclosure. at that point you could probably even run a 12.

you're right, I do have the console. but, I'm also in the hunt for a stock center seat to relace the console with. I have two kids and they are with me a lot of the time so I NEED the extra seating area.

Good luck getting a woofer that deep into an enclosure that lets you keep your seat where you want it. Do an enclosure that replaces the console like Phreak said.

well, I've got a pretty good idea on the type of enclosure I want built. it won't replace the console but the woofer will sit directly behind it. I think there is enough space for a box for one 10" if my research is correct the w6 only requires 0.50-1.00 of cubic space and has a top mount depth of 6.9" I think that is acheivable in the center, but not behind the seats.

anybody with any experience please chime in and shine some light on the situation.

EW, I'm hoping I can swing by your shop today and have you check out that Alpine that I've been having trouble with.

Sorry but I don't think you will get it to work. I had a Infinity perfect 10.1d that I was going to put in my truck (left over from my mustang) and there was no way to make it fit without loosing leg room. IIRC it only has a depth of about 5.75" I want to say. I have the factory center seat in mine.

well, I'm kinda skeptical also but I figure it's worth a shot. a 0.50-1.0 cubic foot requirment is not much at all considering some lower end subs of the same diameter require atleast 1.5 cubic feet. if I can get a w6 off ebay for a low price I'm gonna try it.

LOL.
All the enclosure design info you could want is on JL's site in the tutorials section. PLUS, each woofer includes ported and sealed designs and info needed to build a good enclosure.
I could be wrong, but as a JL dealer since 91, I have never heard of being "certified" to build enclosures. Sounds like BS to me.

My buddy put a Kicker Comp VR 10" in his Ranger. The place built a box from side to side and then in the center between the seats, brought it out a little for the sub to mount to. Them we built a cover over the sub (kinda like a band pass) that was open at the bottom. It made it sound more boomy/bassy inside. If you can do that in the Lightning it should work also.
