Alpine iPod controller?

Thinking about getting an iPod nano and was wondering if the Alpine iPod controller (KCA-420i?) will control it through my Alpine deck. Anyone have any ideas? Just curious.

if the Alpine unit has AI-NEt changer buss the Ipod interface will work for audio, it will play your Ipod through... but you won't have control over the functions on the older Alpine display unit... the display will simply say "AUX" as you scroll through the source key...

which would make it pointless to purchase, because you can get an ai-net to RCA adapter, and an RCA to 3.5mm stereo jack for about half the price of the KCA-420i

25% of the cost of the 420i.

Valid point... unless you own multiple Alpine HU's & want the Ipod controler...

the point was to clarify that it would work with the older units, not as said above...

Alright, you clarified that it will work just as well as a part that costs nowhere near as much and will give you alot more versatility.

man you guys are tough... I actually wasn't even thinking about the AI-Net/RCA adapter when I was posting the first time...I didn't say anything about the Ipod unit being the best or most cost effective....

I'll just slink on back to where I came from... sorry to disrupt your corner of the web... no trespassing intended....

came off kind of rude, but nobody said it wouldn't work at all with the 03 and back ai-net, it just needed to be specified that it wouldn't work as it should.

No need to go running off, but this board tends to get a bit unruly on occasion, especially with new blood.

If you have the iPod controller, can you then plug the cheaper RCA adaptor into the iPod controler like you would if you were daisy chaining a CD changer?

My goal is to be able to control an iPod and have RCA inputs for my XM tuner.

Which Alpine unit do you have? I know the 9835 will work fine. I believe 9831 and higher will work.
