'02 GT highs options

I have an '02 GT and it does NOT have the Mach 460 in it. With that said, what should I do about the lack of "high's" in the front. I was thinking of finding a wrecked 99+ and getting the M460 tweeter pods and putting them in..should I do that or just get some dome tweets/seperate set and do it that way?

THANKS,
Shawn

I vote that FunFordCobra shall be now known as the whiteboy of the Car Audio Forum LOL!

anesthesiaperformance, that's what I'm thinking about doing (getting the tweet pod) to get a little extra "high's" a little close to ear level than the door speakers.

Get some 6.5 inch componets and try them in the Factory locations and see how they sound, some will suggest kickpanels or not putting the tweeters so far away from the mid but try it in the fac locations first and see how it sounds.

If you don't have mach460, you will have to change the door panels to add the mach $3 papercone tweeter. Jl Audio has a supersweet 5x7 and tweet component set or you can modify the factory 5x7 location and put in a 6.5 and tweet set. In my g/f car, I put the Quart tweet in the plastic cover where the mach pod would go. Any 5x7 should sound better than factory since the factory 5x7 does not ahve a tweeter. Good 2 ways start at $79and go to $399 retal here.
panel off
Finished pic

Good pic's Eric.

What size tweet is that and what's the max you can go on it? I've got a pair of the Mach 460 Covers coming from a guy on eBay so I'll probably just do it like that.

Is that some kind of adapter plate you have on the speaker? Is that what you meant by you can get several different sizes to fit in there?

Sorry but I'm not familiar with a lot of this stuff and I've been out of it for quite some time.

There are plastic adapters that convert a 5x7 to a 5.25 or 6.5 speaker. I had to modify the factory mount and use an adapter plate. Some people also make the panels out of wood.
The tweet is mounted on the factory Non-mach plastic panel. The tweet is MB Quart's 3/4" tweet in their factory mount.
You could put a larger tweet in there.
I have not seen the Mach tweeter pods installed without changing the door panels too.

Thanks for the info on the adapters and the speaker sizes. I've got some 5 x 7's, they won't require an adapter right??

So what's the deal on the door panels? I thought the Mach Tweet Pod just attached somehow?

Door panels with the Mach have a big open rectangle area at the top to clear the mach tweeter pod. The pod is actually 7-8" long but you only see the top 3-4". The plastic housing extends below the door panel.
You will not need an adapter for your 5x7's. They should fit fine.

Thanks for the info Eric, I'll have to do something similar as I'm not going to the added expense of swapping door panels.
